Endogenous Endophthalmitis successfully treated with Intravitreal Povidone-iodine injection: a case report

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2020
Background The usefulness of povidone-iodine as an alternative to antimicrobial agents, for endophthalmitis, has recently been documented. We report a case of endogenous endophthalmitis successfully treated with intravitreal injection of povidone-iodine.

Causative Pathogens in Endophthalmitis after Intravitreal Injection of Anti-vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Agents [PDF]

open access: yesRambam Maimonides Medical Journal, 2018
Intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor is currently the preferred treatment for several posterior segment diseases, including age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, as well as macular edema and retinal vein occlusion. As an invasive procedure it involves risks.

What is the incidence and clinical significance of dry eye disease in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors? A systematic review and meta‐analysis of ocular immune‐related adverse events

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed cancer therapy but may cause immune‐related adverse events (irAEs), including dry eye disease (DED). This study aimed to quantify the incidence of ICI‐associated DED and to evaluate factors contributing to variability across studies.

Axial length as a risk factor for pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: A Danish registry study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To examine axial length as a risk factor for pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (pRRD). Methods We identified eyes that underwent phacoemulsification between 2 May 2002 and 10 November 2023 and had an axial length registered at the Departments of Ophthalmology in the Capital Region of Denmark or the private clinic ...

Non‐physician delivered intravitreal injection service: A systematic review of safety, implementation, training and patient experience

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract The global demand for intravitreal anti‐vascular endothelial growth factor (anti‐VEGF) therapy continues to rise, straining ophthalmic capacity worldwide. Task shifting from physicians to trained non‐physician healthcare professionals has emerged as a potential strategy to expand service delivery.

Genomic and phenotypic diversity of Enterococcus faecalis isolated from endophthalmitis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Enterococcus faecalis are hospital-associated opportunistic pathogens and also causative agents of post-operative endophthalmitis. Patients with enterococcal endophthalmitis often have poor visual outcomes, despite appropriate antibiotic therapy. Here we

Real‐world insights on switching aflibercept dosage for enhanced outcomes in age‐related macular degeneration (RISE‐AMD): Safety data

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To evaluate real‐world safety experience with aflibercept 8 mg in a large case series of patients with neovascular age‐related macular degeneration (nAMD). Methods Due to a high proportion of patients on short treatment intervals, patients with nAMD at a Danish tertiary retina clinic were systematically switched to aflibercept 8 mg ...

Exogenous Endophthalmitis

open access: yes, 2016
Endophthalmitis is characterized by marked inflammation of intraocular fluids and tissues and may lead to severe visual loss even with prompt and appropriate treatment. Exogenous endophthalmitis occurs when the infecting agents enter the eye from outside
