Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2012
Epichloae endophytes form mutualistic symbiotic associations with temperate grasses and confer on the host a number of bioprotective benefits through production of fungal secondary metabolites and changed host metabolism. Maintenance of this mutualistic interaction requires that growth of the endophyte within the host is restricted.

The natural condition of plants closely interacts with endophytic microorganisms. Endophytes help in increasing crop yields, removing contaminants, inhibiting pathogens, and producing fi xed nitrogen or novel substances. The repertoire of their effects and functions in plants has not been comprehensively defi ned.

Recent Patents on Biotechnology, 2017
Endophytic fungi are taxonomically and ecologically heterogeneous group of organisms, mainly belonging to the Ascomycotina and Deuteromycotina. Endophytes usually produce the enzymes necessary for the colonization of plant tissues. Endophytes are able to utilize components of plant cells without disturbing host metabolism, which is confirmed by isozyme

Editorial Special Issue “Endophytes”
Planta Medica, 2020Dear Reader, I am delighted to present a special issue on the topic of endophytes. Endophytic microorganisms live in a beneficial symbiosis with their host plants. Although their strategies for survival are mostly unknown, multitrophic physiological and chemical interactions are considered crucial elements.
