Endoscopic sphincterotomy

The experience with endoscopic retrograde sphincterotomy (ERS) in one unit is described. ERS was attempted in 65 patients with extra hepatic obstruction of the biliary duct system and was successfully performed in 53 patients. It is not uncommon to encounter anatomical variations during an endoscopy and may need to be addressed simultaneously with endoscopic DCR for ease of surgery and better outcomes.
