Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography

Surgical Innovation, 1995
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is the gold standard for radiological visualization of the common bile duct. In addition to its diagnostic applications, ERCP, along with sphincterotomy, is a standard therapy for bile duct calculi. ENDOSCOPIC RETROGRADE CHOLANGIOPANCREATOGRAPHY

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1978
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) involves cannulation of the papilla of Vater followed by contrast radiology of the biliary and pancreatic ducts. With experience, X‐ray films of the desired duct(s) can be obtained in 90% of patients, with minimal patient discomfort and a low frequency of complications.

However, the problem of post-ERCP pancreatitis has not yet been solved. Since the appearance of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), there has been a trend for it to replace ERCP as an imaging tool ...
