Endosonography of Groove Pancreatitis

Groove pancreatitis is a rare form of chronic pancreatitis. Distinction between pancreatitis and pancreatic carcinoma is often difficult. Two cases of groove pancreatitis diagnosed by endosonography are described. A hypoechoic pattern between the duodenal wall and pancreas was clearly imaged in both patients.

This novel imaging modality is useful in determining the etiology of submucosal esophageal lesions, has detected anatomic abnormalities in certain motility disorders, and has been used to study patients with portal hypertension.

Endosonography-guided cholangiopancreatography

Detailed imaging of the common bile duct and main pancreatic duct is possible with endosonography. Utilizing a custom manufactured flexible needle, we have developed a technique of performing endosonography-guided cholangiopancreatography (EGCP).Of 205 patients undergoing ERCP, complete ductography was not possible in 11 patients.
