To evaluate which parameters may affect endothelial cell loss after Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) by comparing eyes in the low vs high quartile of endothelial cell loss over a follow-up period of 4 years.Retrospective cohort study.Donor endothelial cell density (ECD) decline was evaluated for 351 eyes of 275 patients up to 4 years ...

Endothelial Cell Perturbation and Low‐Density Lipoprotein
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1987The focal entry and accumulation of LDL within the arterial wall of the normal animal may represent an early stage in the development of the atherosclerotic plaque. Concentrations of LDL 10 to 100 times normal medial concentrations might be difficult to clear from the arterial wall, permitting accumulation of lipid.

Corneal endothelial cell density and the integrity of the monolayer are essential for maintenance of a clear cornea. In 1992, Williams et al. introduced a method to estimate the endothelial cell density in histopathologic examination. It would enable an evaluation of the corneal host endothelium, even if preoperative measurement was not possible.

Central Corneal Endothelial Cell Density After Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1984We report our experience using specular microscopy to perform endothelial cell counts in a series of 16 patients with bilateral, uncontrolled, primary open-angle glaucoma undergoing argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT). Trabeculoplasty was performed in 20 eyes of these 16 patients. Untreated fellow eyes in 11 patients were used as controls for this series.

To determine when corneal transplants develop the decreased endothelial cell density that predisposes to late endothelial failure (LEF).Noted cohort study within a prospective case series. The authors compared 21 grafts that developed LEF with the remaining transplants (controls) in a longitudinal cohort study of 500 consecutive penetrating ...

To assess the clinical outcomes of DMEK in the first series of 120 eyes operated for the treatment of Fuchs endothelial dystrophy in terms of visual acuity and endothelial cell density. The first 120 consecutive eyes that underwent DMEK (i.e. transplantation of an isolated donor Descemet membrane with its endothelium) were evaluated.

[Corneal endothelial cell density following strabismus surgery].
Klinische Monatsblatter fur Augenheilkunde, 2007The short-term impact of eye muscle surgery on the blood-aqueous barrier has been described by iris fluoresceinangiography and laser tyndallometry. The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effects of eye muscle surgery on the oxygen supply of the anterior segment of the eye by determination of the corneal endothelial cell density. We ...

Aim: Our purpose was to assess recipient endothelial cell density and trephination diameter as predictive factors for corneal endothelial cell density after penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). Methods: Forty-eight eyes showing keratoconus (group I, with sufficient recipient endothelial cell density) and 42 eyes ...

The Effect of Phacoemulsification on Corneal Endothelial Cell Density
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1978Seventy-six patients who had undergone unilateral phacoemulsification of cataracts had their endothelial cell density (ECD) measured by specular microscopy. When compared with the unoperated contralateral eye, there was a mean decrease in ECD of 33.8%.

Nanofiber density determines endothelial cell behavior on hydrogel matrix
Materials Science and Engineering: C, 2013When cultured under static conditions, bacterial cellulose pellicles, by the nature of the polymer synthesis that involves molecular oxygen, are characterized by two distinct surface sides. The upper surface is denser in fibers (entangled) than the lower surface that shows greater surface porosity.
