Remifentanil or Alfentanil for Endotracheal Intubation [PDF]

open access: yesAnesthesiology and Pain Medicine, 2011
Dear Editor, In their study Imani et al. (1) have compared the use of remifentanil (5 μg/kg) or alfentanil (50 μg /kg) as adjunct to propofol infusion (2 mg/kg) for rapid sequence anesthesia induction and tracheal intubation without the use of neuromuscular blocking agents in 100 American Socienty of Anesthesiologyists (ASA) I patients aged 20-50 ...

Endotracheal Tube Detection and Segmentation in Chest Radiographs using Synthetic Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Chest radiographs are frequently used to verify the correct intubation of patients in the emergency room. Fast and accurate identification and localization of the endotracheal (ET) tube is critical for the patient. In this study we propose a novel automated deep learning scheme for accurate detection and segmentation of the ET tubes.

Automatic classification of multiple catheters in neonatal radiographs with deep learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We develop and evaluate a deep learning algorithm to classify multiple catheters on neonatal chest and abdominal radiographs. A convolutional neural network (CNN) was trained using a dataset of 777 neonatal chest and abdominal radiographs, with a split of 81%-9%-10% for training-validation-testing, respectively.

Studying continuous, time-varying, and/or complex exposures using longitudinal modified treatment policies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
This tutorial discusses methodology for causal inference using longitudinal modified treatment policies. This method facilitates the mathematical formalization, identification, and estimation of many novel parameters, and mathematically generalizes many commonly used parameters, such as the average treatment effect.

Tracheal suctioning improves gas exchange but not hemodynamics in asphyxiated lambs with meconium aspiration. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
BackgroundCurrent neonatal resuscitation guidelines recommend tracheal suctioning of nonvigorous neonates born through meconium-stained amniotic fluid.MethodsWe evaluated the effect of tracheal suctioning at birth in 29 lambs with asphyxia induced by ...

Endotracheal intubation in the dog [PDF]

open access: yesLab Animal, 2007
In dogs, endotracheal intubation is often necessary for surgery, dental prophylaxis, or other procedures that require gas anesthesia or ventilation. Following a few simple guidelines can help ensure that the procedure is done safely and effectively.

Novel imaging revealing inner dynamics for cardiovascular waveform analysis via unsupervised manifold learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Cardiovascular waveforms contain information for clinical diagnosis. By "learning" and organizing the subtle change of waveform morphology from large amounts of raw waveform data, unsupervised manifold learning helps delineate a high-dimensional structure and display it as a novel three-dimensional (3D) image.

The Effect of Stress Inoculation Training on Endotracheal Intubation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction Stressful situations pervade emergency medicine. Many studies demonstrate the deleterious impacts of stress on a physician’s immediate actions and lasting mental health.

Fentanyl and fentanyl plus lidocaine on attenuation of haemodynamic stress response to laryngoscopy: a comparative study in controlled hypertensive patients posted for laparoscopic cholecystectomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background:Endotracheal intubation may create a period of hemodynamic instability in normotensive patients but more so in hypertensive patients. Endotracheal intubation produces stimulation of laryngeal and tracheal sensory receptors, resulting in a ...

Comparison of Tracheal Intubation Using the Air-Q ILA and LMA Blockbuster Among Adults Undergoing Elective Surgery: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Anaesthesiology and Reanimation
Objective: Air-Q intubating laryngeal airway (ILA) is associated with a 58-77% success rate in blind intubation. The newer laryngeal mask airway (LMA) blockbuster is specially designed to facilitate easier endotracheal intubation and may have a higher ...
