Endotracheal Tube Detection and Segmentation in Chest Radiographs using Synthetic Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Chest radiographs are frequently used to verify the correct intubation of patients in the emergency room. Fast and accurate identification and localization of the endotracheal (ET) tube is critical for the patient. In this study we propose a novel automated deep learning scheme for accurate detection and segmentation of the ET tubes.

Creasing of an everted elastomer tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A cylindrical elastomer tube can stay in an everted state without any applied external forces. If the thickness of the tube is small, the everted tube, except for the regions close to the two ends of the tube, is cylindrical, if the thickness is larger than a critical value, the cross-section of the everted tube becomes noncircular, which is due to ...

Electronic transport through carbon nanotubes -- effects of structural deformation and tube chirality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Atomistic simulations using a combination of classical forcefield and Density-Functional-Theory (DFT) show that carbon atoms remain essentially sp2 coordinated in either bent tubes or tubes pushed by an atomically sharp AFM tip. Subsequent Green's-function-based transport calculations reveal that for armchair tubes there is no significant drop in ...

Using the literature to quantify the learning curve: a case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Objective: To assess whether a literature review of a technology can allow a learning curve to be quantified. Methods: The literature for fibreoptic intubation was searched for studies reporting information relevant to the learning curve.

Highly unperturbed inner tubes in CVD grown double-wall carbon nanotubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The synthesis of double-wall carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) with highly unperturbed inner shells is reported using the catalytic vapor deposition method. Temperature dependent and high resolution Raman measurements show an enhanced phonon life-time of the inner tubes with respect to the outer ones and similar diameter SWCNTs.

Enhancement on Laser Intensity and Proton Acceleration Using Micro-tube Plasma Lens Targets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A hollow cylindrical micron-scale structure is proposed to enhance and manipulate the laser plasma interaction. It is shown through 3-D particle-in-cell simulations that the incident laser pulse intensity is enhanced within the tube. A detailed study of the intensification optimizes the tube dimensions and provides a characterization of the in-tube ...

A catalog of pressure drop, deformation profile and tube laws for slender hyperelastic tubes conveying Newtonian flow at steady state [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Slender tubes constituted of hyperelastic materials undergoing large deformations and conveying inertialess flow of Newtonian fluids at steady state are a model representations of complex systems in both biomechanics and bio-inspired technology. In this paper, we undertake a systematic study of this system.

The Sensing Endotracheal Tube [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Current pulse oximetry sensors are not very wellsuited to use in anaesthetised patients as it has been shownthat during episodes of reduced peripheral circulation they donot function correctly or fail all together [1], [2].

Novel imaging revealing inner dynamics for cardiovascular waveform analysis via unsupervised manifold learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Cardiovascular waveforms contain information for clinical diagnosis. By "learning" and organizing the subtle change of waveform morphology from large amounts of raw waveform data, unsupervised manifold learning helps delineate a high-dimensional structure and display it as a novel three-dimensional (3D) image.

Timely Correction of Misplaced Endotracheal Tubes: A Model for Studying Critical Radiology Result Communication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Clinical management of misplaced endotracheal tubes provides a compelling model to study the communication of critical radiology results: abnormal findings are clearly defined, require a narrow range of actions, and can be followed in subsequent ...
