Acclimation training improves endurance cycling performance in the heat without inducing endotoxemia

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
Purpose: While the intention of endurance athletes undertaking short term heat training protocols is to rapidly gain meaningful physical adaption prior to competition in the heat, it is currently unclear whether or not this process also presents an overt,

Prior brain endurance training improves endurance exercise performance

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, 2023
ABSTRACTMental fatigue (MF) impairs endurance exercise performance. Brain endurance training (BET) describes the systematic repetition of mentally‐fatiguing cognitive tasks designed to build resilience to MF and improve endurance performance. Evidence to date shows that mental training during physical training can benefit post‐training exercise ...

That Escalated Quickly—Planning to Ignore RPE Can Backfire

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) are routinely assessed in exercise science and RPE is substantially associated with physiological criterion measures.

Constructing performance endurance tests for futsal players [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة الرافدين للعلوم الرياضية, 2014
The study aimed at: constructing (tests for performance endurance characteristic) as attitudinal indicators of futsal players. The descriptive approach by means of survey was used, the sample of the study included premier league clubs players and elite ...

Short-Term Speed Variability as an Index of Pacing Stochasticity in Athletic Running Events

open access: yesJournal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology, 2023
We aimed to compare differences in performance and pacing variability indices between 5000 m heats and finals during major championships in men and women. Data with 100 m time resolution were used to compare overall pacing variability (standard deviation

Are there critical fatigue thresholds? Aggregated vs. individual data.

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
The mechanisms underlying task failure from fatiguing physical efforts have been the focus of many studies without reaching consensus. An attractive but debated model explains effort termination with a critical peripheral fatigue threshold. Upon reaching

A Bayesian approach to estimate minute ventilation from heart rate during exercise for assessing environmental exposures of females

open access: yesPhysiological Reports
Estimating minute ventilation (V̇E) is essential for assessing the health impacts of environmental exposures during exercise field‐studies. Predictive equations using heart rate (HR) are commonly used, but overlook exercise intensity domains, and reduced

Pacing and Changes in Body Composition in 48 h Ultra-Endurance Running—A Case Study

open access: yesSports, 2018
Pacing has been investigated in elite and master runners competing in marathon and ultra-marathon races up to 100 km and 100 miles, but not in longer ultra-marathons. In this case study, a 54-year-old master ultra-marathoner—intending to achieve as

Cardiorespiratory mobilization and endurance performance.

open access: yesJournal of human ergology, 1976
Twenty subjects performed for 11 min on a bicycle ergometer 30 sec following 5 min of prior exercise (PE) at each of four different intensities. PE was adjusted to maintain a heart rate of 110, 140, and 170 beats/min. The 4th treatment was no PE. Heart rate was an estimate of the mobilization of the cardiorespiratory system during exercise.

A new validated endurance performance test [PDF]

open access: yesMedicine &amp Science in Sports &amp Exercise, 1996
The extensive use of performance tests in diet intervention studies mirrors the importance of such a measurement. Although many different endurance performance tests have been used in the past, the majority of these different protocols has never been validated.
