Confining Phase of Three Dimensional Supersymmetric Quantum Electrodynamics

open access: yes, 1999
Abelian theories in three dimensions can have linearly confining phases as a result of monopole-instantons, as shown, for SU(2) Yang-Mills theory broken to its abelian subgroup, by Polyakov.

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Photoproduction Processes in Polarized ep - Collisions at HERA [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We study various conceivable photoproduction reactions in a polarized ep collider mode of HERA with respect to their sensitivity to the proton's polarized gluon distribution. A special emphasis is put on the `resolved' part of the cross sections which in

First Data Release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program

open access: yes, 2017
The Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP) is a three-layered imaging survey aimed at addressing some of the most outstanding questions in astronomy today, including the nature of dark matter and dark energy. The survey has been awarded 300

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...

HiRes deconvolution of Spitzer infrared images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Spitzer provides unprecedented sensitivity in the infrared (IR), but the spatial resolution is limited by a relatively small aperture (0.85 m) of the primary mirror.

Confinement in N=1 SQCD: One Step Beyond Seiberg's Duality

open access: yes, 2007
We consider N=1 supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics (SQCD) with the gauge group U(N_c) and N_c+N quark flavors. N_c flavors are massless; the corresponding squark fields develop (small) vacuum expectation values (VEVs) on the Higgs branch.

Can graph-cutting improve microarray gene expression reconstructions? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Microarrays produce high-resolution image data that are, unfortunately, permeated with a great deal of “noise” that must be removed for precision purposes. This paper presents a technique for such a removal process. On completion of this non-trivial task,

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.
