Access pattern restructuring for memory energy

IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, 2004
Improving memory energy consumption of programs that manipulate arrays is an important problem as these codes spend large amounts of energy in accessing off-chip memory. We propose a data-driven strategy to optimize the memory energy consumption in a banked memory system.

An Energy-Division Multiple Access Scheme

2006 9th International Conference on Information Fusion, 2006
A new multiple access scheme based on energy discrimination is proposed. Such a scheme is based on the differences in the average power received by each user. It is particularly useful when no extra resources are available by means of existing schemes; moreover, it is useful when the system complexity must be kept very limited.

The role of microgrids in accelerating energy access

2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe), 2012
This paper presents an approach that could be adopted as part of electrification strategies in developing countries. It makes use of microgrid designs which can be expanded and replicated in a modular fashion across wide geographic areas. The process of designing such a system is demonstrated with a case study in the state of Bihar in India.

Energy Signal Assisted Access Method for Licensed Assisted Access

2017 IEEE 85th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC Spring), 2017
Licensed-Assisted Access Long-Term Evolution (LAA- LTE) framework can offload excessive data stream to the unlicensed spectrum. Devices from different operators will compete for the same band and have to endure a more complex and congested channel conditions.

Water, Energy, Access

2017
This chapter describes a particular rural configuration of Internet infrastructure in Zambia. It shows that access in this location is contingent on water resources, which not only generate hydroelectricity for the Zambian power grid but are also necessary for prospective Internet users' everyday survival in the community of Macha.

The drivers of energy access:

2017
This thesis aims to explore how some of the findings from behavioural economics and the social capital literature can apply in the case of electricity access in developing countries with a focus on solar off-grid electrification. And specifically on solar home systems and solar hybrid mini-grid electrification in rural Guinea-Bissau.

Multiple Access With Energy Spreading Transform

IEEE Signal Processing Letters, 2008
In this letter, the principle of iterative detection based on energy spreading transform (EST) introduced by Hwang and Li is applied to the multiuser-detection (MUD) problem. Different from turbo principle, EST enables iterative signal detection at the receiver without any bandwidth increase resulting from channel coding.

Energy efficient data access techniques

Proceedings of the 2014 SIGPLAN/SIGBED conference on Languages, compilers and tools for embedded systems, 2014
Energy has become a first class design constraint for all types of processors. Data accesses contribute to processor energy usage and can account for up to 25% of the total energy used in embedded processors. Using a set-associative level-one data cache (L1 DC) organization is particularly energy inefficient as load operations access all L1 DC tag and ...

Energy Optimization of Mesh Access Networks

2013
This paper deals with the minimization of energy consumption in mesh access networks. As proposed in 3GPP, future wireless access networks will be based in part on mesh technology. Indeed, as all access points cannot be connected by optic fibers to the core networks, we propose to realize a mesh network to connect altogether hotspots and femtocells. To
