An Energy Budget for the Olfactory Glomerulus [PDF]
Energy demands are becoming recognized as an important constraint on neural signaling. The olfactory glomerulus provides a well defined system for analyzing this question. Odor stimulation elicits high-energy demands in olfactory glomeruli where olfactory axons converge onto dendrites of olfactory bulb neurons.

Astrophysical Origins of the Highest Energy Cosmic Rays [PDF]
Theoretical aspects of potential astrophysical sources of the highest energy cosmic rays are discussed, including their energy budget and some issues on particle escape and propagation.

Appraising the brain's energy budget [PDF]
In the average adult human, the brain represents about 2% of the body weight. Remarkably, despite its relatively small size, the brain accounts for about 20% of the oxygen and, hence, calories consumed by the body (1). This high rate of metabolism is remarkably constant despite widely varying mental and motoric activity (2).

The mass and energy budget of Cassiopeia A [PDF]
Further analysis of X-ray spectroscopy results recently obtained from the MOS CCD cameras on-board XMM-Newton provides a detailed description of the hot and cool X-ray emitting plasma in Cas A.

Study the effect of the host on the survival and energy budget of Habrobracon hebetor (Hym., Braconidae) [PDF]
Using of biological control agents, especially parasitoids, within the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs is increasingly expanding. Several factors can influence the effectiveness of parasitoids, the most important of which is the type and ...

Diel activity patterns of animal species reflect constraints imposed by morphological, physiological, and behavioral trade‐offs, but these trade‐offs are rarely quantified for multispecies assemblages. Based on a systematic year‐long camera‐trap study in

In snow-dominated mountain regions, a warming climate is expected to alter two drivers of hydrology: (1) decrease the fraction of precipitation falling as snow; and (2) increase surface energy available to drive evapotranspiration.
