Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Evaluating the JULES land surface model energy fluxes using FLUXNET data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Surface energy flux measurements from a sample of ten FLUXNET sites selected to represent a range of climate conditions and biome types were used to assess the performance of the Hadley Centre land surface model (JULES).

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

R&D of the EM Calorimeter Energy Calibration with Machine Learning based on the low-level features of the Cluster [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
We have developed an energy calibration method using machine learning for the ILC electromagnetic (EM) calorimeter (ECAL), a sampling calorimeter consisting of Silicon-Tungsten layers.

Energy Calibration for the GERDA Experiment

open access: yes, 2020
GERDA (GERmanium Detector Array) is an experiment conducted at the underground laboratory of LNGS (Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso) to search for neutrinoless double beta decay in Ge76. It uses enriched high-purity germanium diodes both as the sources of the decay and as the detectors.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Jet energy calibration in ATLAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A correct energy calibration for jets is essential to the success of the ATLAS experi- ment. In this thesis I study a method for deriving an in situ jet energy calibration for the ATLAS detector.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...
