Efficiency of energy conversion by piezoelectrics
Applied Physics Letters, 2006The efficiency of energy conversion by piezoelectric devices depends upon the quality factor Q and electromechanical coupling coefficient k2. In this study the efficiency Q and k2 are measured for a piezoelectric cantilever, a piezoelectric stack, and a micromachined piezoelectric membrane. The experimental values are compared to a model which predicts

Energy Conversion in Thermocells: Efficiency Calculations
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1990The quantities which enter the definition of thermodynamic efficiency are the work performed and the heat delivered to the system. If these quantities are taken for a cyclic process, one may speak about the total efficiency. The Carnot efficiency gives the theoretical maximum limit for the total efficiency.

Energy Conversion Efficiency of Synthetic Jets
ASME 2011 Pacific Rim Technical Conference and Exhibition on Packaging and Integration of Electronic and Photonic Systems, MEMS and NEMS: Volume 1, 2011Synthetic jets are driven by a periodic electrical signal to generate pulsated airflow that can provide cooling to a hot surface. The working principle of synthetic jets involves conversion of electrical energy into mechanical and fluid energy. Piezoelectric actuators, comprising of a thin metal substrate bonded to a piezoelectric disk are induced to ...

Power Chips for Efficient Energy Conversion
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004The Power Chips technology employs a gap of 4–10 nanometers in a gap diode to allow for efficient thermal conversion with very low thermal leakage. The design ΔT is on the order of 400 degrees single stage, with operation possible from 1 K to 1600 K, depending on configuration and meeting engineering challenges.

Photovoltaic cell: efficiency of energy conversion
European Journal of Physics, 2000Two additions to student experiments with a photovoltaic cell are described. The power of the incident radiation is determined experimentally and the efficiency of the energy conversion is presented as a function of the temperature of the source of irradiation, an incandescent lamp.

A high-efficiency energy conversion system
IECEC 96. Proceedings of the 31st Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2002Introduces a fundamentally new method for converting pressure into rotative motion. An historical background is given. An idealized nonturbine Brayton cycle manometric engine and associated equations are described. Salient features are explained, together with suggested applications.

Energy Conversion Efficiency of Wave Gliders
Membrane TechnologyWave gliders are a new type of ocean observation platform that can gain forward power by receiving and converting wave energy. The ability of wave gliders to turn waves determines the speed, maneuverability, and precision of wave gliders’ navigation control in various sea conditions.

Photon energy conversion efficiency in gamma-ray spectrometry
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2016Photon energy conversion efficiency coefficient is presented as the ratio of total energy registered in the collected spectrum to the emitted photon energy. This parameter is calculated from the conventional gamma-ray histogram and in principle is not affected by coincidence phenomena.
