A Search for the Fourth SM Family: Tevatron still has a Chance

open access: yes, 2010
Existence of the fourth family follows from the basics of the Standard Model and the actual mass spectrum of the third family fermions. We discuss possible manifestations of the fourth SM family at existing and future colliders.

Band Alignment in In‐Oxo Metal Porphyrin SURMOF Heterojunctions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Porphyrin core metalation in indium‑oxo SURMOFs enables systematic tuning of band edge positions without altering the crystal structure. First‑principles calculations reveal type‑I and type‑II heterostructures as well as multi‑junction energy cascades, establishing a modular strategy for exciton funneling and charge separation in optoelectronic ...

Dynamics of Faculty Engagement in the Movement for Democracy's Education at Nothern Arizona University: Backgrounds, Practices, and Future Horizons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
As scholarship has become increasingly narrow and disconnected from public life, Kettering research has documented an intense sense of malaise in higher education, what Harry Boyte has called a loss of civic agency.

Implementation of Drug‐Induced Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury in Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A modular Muscle–Kidney proximal tubule‐on‐a‐chip integrates 3D skeletal muscle and renal proximal tubule tissues to model drug‐induced rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. The coculture system enables dynamic tissue interaction, functional contraction monitoring, and quantification of nephrotoxicity, revealing drug side effect‐induced metabolic ...

Multicolor Optoelectronic Synapse Enabled by Photon‐Modulated Remote Doping in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multicolor optoelectronic synapses are realized by vertically integrating solution‐processed MoS2 thin‐film and SWCNT. The electronically disconnected but interactive MoS2 enables photon‐modulated remote doping, producing a bi‐directional photoresponse.

Democratic institutions and the energy intensity of well-being: a cross-national study

open access: yesEnergy, Sustainability and Society, 2017
Background Energy consumption is necessary for human well-being, yet the growth of energy consumption also contributes to climate change and a range of negative externalities.

The Significance of the European Citizens' Initiative for Pan-European Participatory Democracy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Lisbon Treaty has introduced a new Article 11 of the Treaty on European Union (TUE) that creates a European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) allowing one million citizens from a significant number of member states to invite the European Commission to ...

Complex Cryptographic and User‐Centric Physically Unclonable Functions Enabled by Strain‐Sensitive Nanocrystals via Selective Ligand Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates electromechanical PUFs that improve on traditional electric PUFs. The electron transport materials are coated randomly through selective ligand exchange. It produces multiple keys and a key with motion dependent on percolation and strain, and approaches almost ideal inter‐ and intra‐hamming distances.

Fiscal Regimes In and Outside the MENA Region [PDF]

open access: yes
The 1990s ushered the world not only into a democracy wave, following the collapse of the former Soviet Union, but also a wave of fiscal rules, where the number of countries adopting this fiscal regime steadily rose from only 10 in 1990 to reach 97 in ...
