Passive Energy Dissipation Devices
2013In this chapter, the supplemental passive energy dissipation devices, metallic or hysteretic dampers, frictional, viscoelastic and viscous (linear and non-linear) dampers, developed and studied over the years, are briefly described. For each type of device, the physical, mechanical and technological aspects are analysed by describing the construction ...

Energy Dissipation in Finite Cavities
Radiation Research, 1962A method of calculating the distribution of the energy dissipated by electrons near an interface and across a The results are presented in such a form as to reduce greatly the amount of labor required for such calculations.

Energy Dissipation on Block Ramps
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2006Block ramps are structures often used in river restoration projects. They generally ensure a stable streambed and produce high energy dissipation. This paper shows the results of an experimental investigation conducted at the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Univ.

Dissipated Energy during Cyclic Deformation
Physica Status Solidi (a), 1973Measurements of the dissipated energy of polycrystalline Zn samples were performed at room temperature during cyclic deformation at 19 kHz. The samples used (λ/2-samples) were excited to oscillate in the longitudinal resonant mode. It proved possible to estimate the distribution of σ and e along the λ/2-sample, which cannot be measured directly.

Energy Dissipation in Brown Fat
1978Heat evolution in isolated brown fat cells has been measured by microcalorimetry. Thermogenesis (= oxygen consumption) is enhanced in the presence of CO2. This effect is probably due to pyruvate carboxylase activity which will increase the mitochondrial concentration of oxaloacetate.

Dissipation of excess kinetic energy is often required where water is released from a reservoir through outlet works or over a spillway, or at the bottom of canal drop structures. The hydraulic jump is widely used as an effective means of dissipating energy for a range of entering Froude numbers.
