Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Energy-Efficient Transmission Schemes in Cooperative Cellular Systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Energy-efficient communication is an important requirement for mobile devices, as the battery technology has not kept up with the growing requirements stemming from ubiquitous multimedia applications. This paper considers energy-efficient transmission schemes in cooperative cellular systems with unbalanced traffic between uplink and downlink ...

Defining a sustainable supply chain for buildings Off-Site envelope thermal insulation solutions: proposal of a methodology to investigate opportunities based on a context analysis

open access: yesLogistics, Supply Chain, Sustainability and Global Challenges
External wall thermal insulation is one of the most effective solutions on the market to increase energy efficiency in the built environment. Off-Site Construction (OSC), through better control of the various parameters involved, can bring important ...

Development of a single LMS loop three channels analog adaptive co-site interference cancelling system

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Co-site interference is becoming prominent on some independent platforms (e.g., airplanes, satellites, space stations, and vessels). Although many digital multichannel cancellation algorithms have been investigated, the saturation problem of the receiver

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

Efficiency of magnetic Penrose process in higher dimensional Myers-Perry black hole spacetimes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In this paper, we consider a well-established magnetic Penrose process (MPP) and bring out its impact on the efficiency of energy extraction from higher dimensional (i.e., $D>4$) black holes. We derive the field equations of motion and determine the expressions for the energy efficiency of energy extraction for the case of higher dimensional black ...

An Energy-Efficient Power Allocation Game with Selfish Channel State Reporting in Cellular Networks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
With energy-efficient resource allocation, mobile users and base station have different objectives. While the base station strives for an energy-efficient operation of the complete cell, each user aims to maximize its own data rate. To obtain this individual benefit, users may selfishly adjust their Channel State Information (CSI) reports, reducing the
