Recognition of process safety position in multiple-criteria decision analysis in process design

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2022
Typical factors considered in industrial practice for process designs are material and energy efficiency, process economics and level of environmental burden caused by the new technology.

On the attitudes and opportunities of fuel consumption monitoring and measurement within the shipping industry and the identification and validation of energy efficiency and performance interventions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In the past few years, energy efficiency has received increasing attention in the shipping industry. On the one hand, the introduction of environmental regulations such as the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and the Ship Energy Efficiency ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

An index that correlates service performance and energy consumption of belt conveyors [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2018
In the present paper, an index is proposed for belt conveyors that represents the evaluation of the overall functional/design efficiency by considering both energy and service performance.

Development of Energy Efficiency Design Index for Inland Cargo Vessels of Bangladesh

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science: Research & Development, 2017
Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) was introduced since 2013 for recent built vessels to measure energy efficiency of sea going vessels. This factor already has created a great influence on global maritime industry. However, any requirement linked to the energy efficiency of inland vessels does not exist.

Net Energy Index: A New Way To Measure Energy Efficient Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Energy efficiency indexes are useful for providing tangible measurements of energy efficiency in buildings. Buildings use approximately 70% of all electricity in the USA.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Relationship between refurbishment project complexity and energy efficiency design performance through the mediating design team attributes / Siti Nor Azniza Ahmad Sekak [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
There is a rising concern about energy consumption in buildings and its possible adverse impacts on the environment. This situation has made the existing building owners and designers to integrate Energy Efficiency (EE) design features into their ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
