Energy efficiency of membrane distillation up to high salinity: Evaluating critical system size and optimal membrane thickness

open access: yes, 2017
This study presents a comprehensive analytical framework to design efficient single-stage membrane distillation (MD) systems for the desalination of feed streams up to high salinity. MD performance is quantified in terms of energy efficiency (represented

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Experimental Study of Dry-bulb and Wet-bulb Temperature Variations on Performance of Ducted Heat Pump

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2015
To analyze effects of dry-bulb and wet-bulb temperatures (D&WBTs) on unit performance, experimental research on cooling capacity and EER of ducted heat pump are studied by means of air-enthalpy method when D&WBTs change in ±1.0 ℃/±0.5 ℃ of variations set

Hydrothermal Carbonization of Waste Biomass: Process Design, Modeling, Energy Efficiency and Cost Analysis

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, a hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) process is designed and modeled on the basis of experimental data previously obtained for two representative organic waste materials: off-specification compost and grape marc. The process accounts for all

Employment at Will: The American Rule and Its Application in Alaska [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
In this thesis, secondary flow in a two stage, low aspect ratio turbine is investigated using CFD. A parameter study is carried out to investigate how the turbine performance is affected by the choice of aspect ratio.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

Asymptotic Efficiency of Deterministic Estimators for Discrete Energy-Based Models: Ratio Matching and Pseudolikelihood

open access: yes, 2012
Standard maximum likelihood estimation cannot be applied to discrete energy-based models in the general case because the computation of exact model probabilities is intractable. Recent research has seen the proposal of several new estimators designed specifically to overcome this intractability, but virtually nothing is known about their theoretical ...

Effects of Biological Sex and Age on Cerebrospinal Fluid Markers—A Retrospective Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis is a key diagnostic tool for neurological diseases. To date, only a few studies have investigated in larger cohorts the effect of age and biological sex on diagnostic markers extracted from CSF. Methods For this retrospective observational study, 4163 CSF findings (2012–2020) were evaluated.
