Chemical energy engines

Advanced Energy Conversion, 1968
Abstract The relations governing the conversion of chemical energy to mechanical or electrical energy are examined. It is shown that there is no fundamental disadvantage in having a heat engine as part of the conversion system. The free energy change of the chemical reaction limits the upper temperature at which heat can be supplied to a heat engine.
