The relation between magnitude and energy of earthquakes

Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1955
Relations between magnitude and energy of earthquakes given earlier are briefly reviewed. A new relation is derived using energy computations based on complete integrations of the Rayleigh wave phase. Twenty‐seven shallow‐focus earthquakes in 1952–1953 covering the magnitude range 5.3–7.8 recorded by the Galitzin instruments at Kiruna have been used ...

Simulation of Energy Flows in a Greenhouse: Magnitudes and Conservation Potential

Transactions of the ASAE, 1981
ABSTRACT A simulation model describing transient greenhouse energy flows is presented. The calibration, valida-tion, and sensitivity of the model are presented in addi-tion to an analysis of certain winter heating season data showing overall energy conservation effects.

Maximum spectral energy for seismic magnitude estimation. Part I: Rayleigh-wave magnitude

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1998
Abstract A method for accurate estimation of surface-wave magnitudes is presented as an alternative to Ms, the classical time-domain magnitude. The salient features of the method are the use of velocity and frequency windows to isolate seismic phases and the use of maximum spectral energy to characterize ground motion for magnitude ...

Channel Magnitude-Based MIMO With Energy Detection for Internet of Things Applications

IEEE Internet of Things Journal, 2019
In this article, three low complexity multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) receivers using energy detection and multilevel amplitude-shift keying (ASK) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications are described. To circumvent the inherent nonlinearity of the noncoherent MIMO system, an equivalent linear system model for the channel is introduced.

Magnitude and energy of subterrane shocks in Upper Silesia

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1963

Upper limit magnitudes for induced seismicity in energy industries

Geophysical Prospecting
AbstractWe adopt extreme value theory to estimate the upper limit of the next record‐breaking magnitudes of induced seismic events. The methodology is based on order statistics and does not rely on knowledge of the state of the subsurface reservoir or injection strategy.

Energy Dissipation at Structural Joints; Mechanisms and Magnitudes

1964
Abstract : A largely experimental study is described, which indicates that dissipation of vibratory energy at multi-pointfastened (bolted, riveted, spot- welded) joints connecting panels to stiffeners or to other panels, at frequencies considerably above the panel fundamental, is primarily due to the 'pumping' of air produced as adjacent surfaces ...

Rapid determination of the energy magnitude Me

2009
The magnitude of an earthquake is one of the most used parameters to evaluate the earthquake’s damage potential. However, many magnitude scales developed over the past years have different meanings. Among the non-saturating magnitude scales, the energy magnitude Me is related to a well defined physical parameter of the seismic source, that is the ...
