In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Energy calibration and performance testing of LEGe detector

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
The low energy germanium detector (LEGe) is in all aspects optimised for performance at low and moderate energies. It has specific advantages over conventional planar or coaxial detectors.

Dynamical characteristics of Rydberg electrons released by a weak electric field

open access: yes, 2015
The dynamics of ultra-slow electrons in the combined potential of an ionic core and a static electric field is discussed. With state-of-the-art detection it is possible to create such electrons through strong intense-field photo-absorption and to detect ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

DOI-PET Imaging Investigation Based on 3-D Cross-Strip Cadmium Zinc Telluride Detector

open access: yesJournal of Isotopes, 2022
To study the PET imaging performance of cross-strip cadmium zinc telluride detector with a size of 16.4 mm×16.4 mm×5 mm, which can determine the 3-D position information of 511 keV gamma photons.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Position-sensitive detection of ultracold neutrons with an imaging camera and its implications to spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2016
Position-sensitive detection of ultracold neutrons (UCNs) is demonstrated using an imaging charge-coupled device (CCD) camera. A spatial resolution less than 15 $\mu$m has been achieved, which is equivalent to an UCN energy resolution below 2 pico ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Energy-resolution Study of Frisch-grid Ionization Chamber Using Multi-wire Proportional Chamber Readout

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
A Frisch-grid ionization chamber detector based on multi-wire proportional chamber readout is built. It is equipped with avalanche amplification while retaining the shielding characteristics of the Frisch-grid ionization chamber to pre-amplify the ...

Characterization of some modern scintillators recommended for use on large fusion facilities in γ-ray spectroscopy and tomographic measurements of γ-emission profiles

open access: yesNukleonika, 2017
LaBr3:Ce,CeBr3 and GAGG:Ce scintillators were investigated and the determined characteristics were compared with those obtained for the well-known and widely used CsI:Tl and NaI:Tl crystals. All the detectors were of the same size of 10 × 10 × 5 mm3. The
