Uneven Impacts of Seawall Heightening on Tsunami Risk Reduction under Rising Sea Levels: Probabilistic Scenarios from the Japan Trench

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Disasters exacerbated by climate change have prompted adaptation measures, including seawall heightening, which is an effective approach to protecting coastal areas. However, the combined effect of rising sea levels and tsunamis can create a compound coastal hazard, in which long‐term sea level rise amplifies the impact of tsunamis.

Iron Energy Carrier: Experimental Characterisation, Combustion Diagnostic and Benchmarking with Other Clean Metal Fuels

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates how iron particles burn across a wide size range, revealing late‐stage nanoparticle release and a previously unrecognised shift in combustion behaviour near 118 µm. High‐speed imaging, PMT diagnostics and SEM analyses have been conducted.

Seizing the Opportunity of Energy Retrofitting of Existing Tunnels

open access: yesTunnelling and Underground Space Technology
Energy tunnels have emerged as systems that can contribute to the production of clean, renewable thermal energy. Nevertheless, so far applications have been related almost exclusively to new tunnelling projects. Accordingly, no systematic methodologies for the heat exchange instrumentation of existing tunnels have been proposed up until now.

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,
