An evolutionary game-theoretic approach to investigate the behavior of industries for energy-saving measures and determining energy supply strategy

open access: yesSustainable Futures
Efficient energy provision methods can lead to significant cost savings for commercial and industrial operations. This study aims to analyze the dynamic behavior of industrial producers and their decision-making regarding energy supply strategies under ...

Green facade for energy savings in buildings: The influence of leaf area index and facade orientation on the shadow effect

open access: yes, 2017
To “green” building envelopes is currently one of the most promising ways to provide energy savings in buildings and to contribute to the urban heat island effect mitigation. The shadow effect supplied by plants is the most significant parameter for this

Achieving energy neutrality in wastewater treatment plants through energy savings and enhancing renewable energy production

open access: yesReviews in Environmental Science and Bio\/technology, 2018
Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) consume high amounts of energy which is mostly purchased from the grid. During the past years, many ongoing measures have taken place to analyze the possible solutions for both reducing the energy consumption and ...

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Adaptive Comfort Degree-Days: an index to compare adaptive comfort standards and estimate changes in energy consumption for future UK climates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper introduces the concept of the Adaptive Comfort Degree-Day, a temperature difference/time composite metric, as a means of comparing energy savings from Adaptive Comfort Model standards by quantifying the extent to which the temperature limits ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

An assessment of the potential returns of energy certificates for the UK household sector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Purpose – This article seeks to investigate the interconnections between the expectations of the impact of energy certificates issued within the UK domestic building sector through the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and the actual ...

SIRT4 positively regulates autophagy via ULK1, but independently of HDAC6 and OPA1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells expressing SIRT4 (H161Y), a catalytically inactive mutant of the sirtuin SIRT4, fail to upregulate LC3B‐II and exhibit a reduced autophagic flux under stress conditions. Interestingly, SIRT4(H161Y) promotes phosphorylation of ULK1 at S638 and S758 that are associated with inhibition of autophagy initiation.

Energy savings from Smart Cities: A critical analysis

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2019
The world's cities are responsible for some three-quarters of global energy use and energy-and industry-related greenhouse gas emissions. Global climate change mitigation, and ecological sustainability in general therefore crucially depend on the ...
