Analyses of efficiency/energy-savings of DC power distribution systems/microgrids: Past, present and future

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, 2019
DC is reappearing in the power system – it can be seen on the generation side as solar photovoltaics and wind farms with AC/DC/AC conversion; on the transmission side as HVDC lines and on the consumer side as a variety of modern electronic loads.

Thermoeconomics as a tool for the design and analysis of energy savings initiatives in buildings connected to district heating networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
District Heating (DH) is a rational way to supply heat to buildings in urban areas. This is expected to play an important role in future energy scenarios, mainly because of the possibility to recover waste heat and to integrate renewable energy sources ...

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Easy Ways to Lower your Utility Bills [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The average home in Buffalo can expect energy bills of $2,267 per year. An energy-efficient home in Buffalo will have much lower bills – only $1,451 per year. That is a savings of $816.

How information propagation in social networks can improve energy savings based on time of use tariff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The expected savings from energy efficiency projects are divided into two, direct savings and indirect savings. Direct savings refer to savings obtained through the personal effort of an individual implementing some energy efficiency measures.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
