Minimizing energy on homogeneous processors with shared memory

Theoretical Computer Science, 2020
This paper considers the system-wide energy-efficient task scheduling problem in a system architecture equipped with a multi-core processor and a shared main memory. The focus is on the case when the number of tasks is greater than the number of cores, which has been proved to be NP-hard if the number of cores is at least 2. For the multiple-cores case,

A Shared Space Texting Energy Use

2011 Seventh International Conference on Intelligent Environments, 2011
Consumption of shared resources in public locations can be understood as being socially invisible. In order to focus attention to the energy consumption in such environments, a design intervention was carried out over a two-week period to deliver electricity usage as collective knowledge.

Energy Efficiency of Spectrum-Sharing Communication Systems

2015 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2014
Energy efficiency is of paramount importance for studying spectrum-sharing green communications. We provide some understanding on the energy efficiency of spectrum-sharing systems which are subject to an average interference power constraint. The results present some interesting insight for designing spectrum-sharing systems.

Peer-to-Peer Energy Sharing

Proceedings of the Tenth ACM International Conference on Future Energy Systems, 2019
P2P (peer-to-peer) energy sharing allows household users to share their local energy resources (e.g., rooftop PVs, home batteries) based on an agreed cost-sharing mechanism (e.g., implemented as a smart contract over a blockchain ledger). Sharing energy resources is becoming a new form of sharing economy.

Energy efficient peer-to-peer file sharing

The Journal of Supercomputing, 2011
This paper reveals the power saving potential of P2P file sharing in two cases; popular and unpopular files. For popular files, we derive, with regard to BitTorrent, an expression for the optimal time seeders should support leechers. For unpopular files, we extend an existing model by taking into account leechers’ power consumption dependent on the ...

Modeling energy efficiency of file sharing

e & i Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, 2010
File sharing results in millions of PCs running on a 24/7 basis. In this paper it is demonstrated how to use mathematical modeling in order to optimize file sharing swarms in such a way that the overall energy consumption is minimized. In detail, the optimal seeding time for BitTorrent seeders is calculated.
