Cooperation and Competition among Energy Storages [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We study competition and cooperation among a group of storage units. We show that as the number of storages increases, the profit of storages approaches zero under Nash competition. We propose two ways in which storages can achieve non-zero profit and show that they are optimal in the sense that storages achieve the maximum possible profit.

Association Between Metabolic Syndrome and Radiographic Changes in Psoriatic Arthritis: A Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a known comorbidity of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and is associated with PsA disease activity. We aimed to explore the association between MetS and radiographic features (peripheral and axial) in PsA. Methods We included patients with PsA followed at our prospective observational cohort for the period between 1978 ...

Negatively charged nanoporous membrane for a dendrite-free alkaline zinc-based flow battery with long cycle life

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Dendrite accumulation is a hindrance for alkaline zinc-based flow batteries. Here the authors design a negatively charged nanoporous membrane that mitigates zinc dendrite growth by repulsion of zincate anions, leading to a zinc-based flow battery with ...

Scalable Planning for Energy Storage in Energy and Reserve Markets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Energy storage can facilitate the integration of renewable energy resources by providing arbitrage and ancillary services. Jointly optimizing energy and ancillary services in a centralized electricity market reduces the system's operating cost and enhances the profitability of energy storage systems.

Transmission Expansion Planning Considering Energy Storage

open access: yes, 2014
In electricity transmission networks, energy storage systems (ESS) provide a means of upgrade deferral by smoothing supply and matching demand. We develop a mixed integer programming (MIP) extension to the transmission network expansion planning (TEP ...

Elucidating the Supramolecular Interaction of Positively Supercharged Fluorescent Protein with Anionic Phthalocyanines

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Positively supercharged mGreenLatern protein is self‐assembled electrostatically with negatively charged zinc phthalocyanines to yield bio‐based photoactive materials in aqueous media. The addition of phthalocyanines results in the formation of large complexes fully quenching of the protein fluorescence. The results indicate an energy transfer from the

Spatiotemporal Control Over Protein Release from Artificial Cells via a Light‐Activatable Protease

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Stimulus‐responsive protein release is essential for intercellular communication. Mimicking this functionality in artificial cells is promising to study the working principles of cellular signaling. Herein, an engineered light‐activatable protease is implemented in a coacervate‐based artificial cell platform to establish user‐defined spatiotemporal ...

Light‐Triggered Protease‐Mediated Release of Actin‐Bound Cargo from Synthetic Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
TEV Prtoease‐mediated Releasable Actin‐binding Protein (TRAP) is a protein‐based platform consisting of a cargo tightly bound to reconstituted actin networks in synthetic cells which can be proteolyticly released from the bound actin, followed by its secretion through membrane translocation mediated by a cell‐penetrating peptide.
