Development of lithium-thionyl chloride batteries for Centaur [PDF]
Lithium thionyl chloride (LiSOCl2) primary cells and batteries have received considerable attention over the last several years because of their high theoretical specific energy and energy density. The objective was to develop a 300 wh/kg cell capable of

Enhancing thermochemical energy storage density of magnesium‐manganese oxides
AbstractThree approaches for enhancing the energy density of magnesium‐manganese oxide porous reactive materials for thermochemical energy storage (TCES) are investigated: adjusting the mole ratio, lowering the oxygen partial pressure during thermal reduction, and transition metal oxide doping.

The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...

Design definition of a mechanical capacitor [PDF]
A design study and analyses of a 10 kW-hr, 15 kW mechanical capacitor system was studied. It was determined that magnetically supported wheels constructed of advanced composites have the potential for high energy density and high power density ...

X‐Ray Tomography Analysis of Damage Mechanisms in Metal Matrix Syntactic Foams During Compression
In situ synchrotron X‐ray tomography is used to investigate the internal damage mechanisms of AlSi12 metal matrix syntactic foam with ceramic hollow spheres during compressive loading. It is concluded that a homogeneous distribution of the second‐phase filler material results in a sequential collapse in a localized region; this leads to controlled and ...

Cell architecture designs towards high-energy-density microscale energy storage devices
The rapid growth of miniaturized electronics has led to an urgent demand for microscale energy storage devices (MESDs) to sustainably power the micro electronic devices. However, most MESDs reported to date have suffered from the limited energy densities and shape versatility compared to conventional large-scale counterparts because of the ...

Challenges during Flash Lamp Annealing of Aerosol‐Deposited Barium Titanate Films
Aerosol deposition is used to rapidly deposit barium titanate films with thicknesses ranging from 2 to 16 μm at room temperature, eliminating the need for further densification. However, to recover the electromechanical properties, annealing is required, which limits the usage of temperature‐sensitive substrates.
