Towards High Energy Density, High Conductivity Thermal Energy Storage Composites
ASME 2012 Third International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer, 2012Thermal energy storage (TES) materials absorb transient pulses of heat, allowing for rapid storage of low-quality thermal energy for later use, and effective temperature regulation as part of a thermal management system. This paper describes recent development of salt hydrate-based TES composites at the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Energy Storage Capacitors of Very High Energy Density
IEEE Transactions on Parts, Hybrids, and Packaging, 1977A detailed discussion of the design and manufacture of reliable high-energy-density pulse-discharge capacitors is presented. Electrical design and thermal analysis of single sections are described and illustrated with actual test data. The physics of failure of high voltage capacitors is explored, and its application to the design and manufacturing ...

Extreme Energy Density Flywheel Energy Storage System for Space Applications
6th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (IECEC), 2008The objective of th is program was to develop a flywheel energy storage system capable of achieving its maximum energy density, while being capable of repeated high peak -power demands. The key to achievi ng this objective is the development of a composite hub capable of supporting an optimized high -speed composite rim.

High energy density double-layer capacitors for energy storage applications
IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 1992The feasibility of applying the double-layer capacitor to uninterruptible power systems and electric vehicles is addressed. The double-layer capacitor improves energy storage density by two orders of magnitude over the traditional electrolytic capacitors.

Polymer-Based Dielectrics with High Energy Storage Density
Annual Review of Materials Research, 2015Polymer film capacitors are critical components in many high-power electrical systems. Because of the low energy density of conventional polymer dielectrics, these capacitors currently occupy significant volume in the entire electrical system. This article reviews recent progress made in the development of polymer dielectrics with high energy storage ...

High Density Thermal Energy Storage With Supercritical Fluids
ASME 2012 6th International Conference on Energy Sustainability, Parts A and B, 2012A novel approach to storing thermal energy with supercritical fluids is being investigated, which if successful, promises to transform the way thermal energy is captured and utilized. The use of supercritical fluids allows cost-affordable high-density storage with a combination of latent heat and sensible heat in the two-phase as well as the ...
