Energy Storage and Exchange Mechanisms in Turbulent Media
Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 1991In this study modes of excitation are investigated that could be part of the internal energy, and the energy transfer mechanisms are described that likely contribute to the establishment of equilibrium in fully developed turbulence. We treat turbulence as a thermodynamic system in which equilibrium is mainly achieved through binary encounters between ...

Propulsion architectures using mechanical energy storage
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part K: Journal of Multi-body Dynamics, 2014Alternative propulsion architecture systems are described and evaluated from the standpoint of efficiency and potential for use as mechanical energy storage systems in automobiles. Air hybrids are studied and modeling/simulation results are presented along with experimental data from a test bed to assess round-trip efficiencies of such storage systems.

There are two basic types of energy storage that result from the application of forces upon material systems. One of these involves changes in potential energy, and the other involves changes in the motion of mass, and thus kinetic energy. This chapter will focus upon the major types of potential energy and kinetic energy storage.

Charge-Storage Mechanisms in Nanostructured Carbides and Nitrides for Energy Storage
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2015Introduction Early transition-metal carbides and nitrides are potential electrode materials for supercapacitor applications due to their high accessible surface areas, high electric conductivities and low cost. They possess high capacitances, good capacitance retention during cycling and wide voltage windows.

Introduction to Mechanical Energy Storage
2019This book will focus on energy storage technologies that are mechanical in nature and are also suitable for coupling with renewable energy resources. The importance of the field of energy storage is increasing with time, as the supply and demand cycles become more and more stochastic and less predictable.

Electrokinetic Supercapacitor for Simultaneous Harvesting and Storage of Mechanical Energy
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018Energy harvesting and storage are two distinct processes that are generally achieved using two separated parts based on different physical and chemical principles. Here we report a self-charging electrokinetic supercapacitor that directly couples the energy harvesting and storage processes into one device.

Mechanical characterization and comparison of energy storage and return prostheses
Medical Engineering & Physics, 2017The suitability of finite element analysis (FEA) for standardizing the mechanical characterization of energy storage and return (ESAR) prostheses was investigated. A methodology consisting of both experimental and numerical analysis was proposed and trialed for the Vari-flex® ModularTM, Flex-foot Cheetah and Cheetah Xtreme by Össur® and a 1E90 Sprinter

Superstrong Ultralong Carbon Nanotubes for Mechanical Energy Storage
Advanced Materials, 2011Energy storage in a proper form is essential for a good grid strategy. The systems developed so far mostly use batteries or capacitors in which energy is stored electrochemically or electrostatically. Mechanical energy storage is also one of the most important ways for energy conversion.

Energy Storage and Return Prostheses: A Review of Mechanical Models
Critical Reviews in Biomedical Engineering, 2016Conventional lower-limb mechanical models were originally developed for gait analysis of ablebodied Conventional lower-limb mechanical models were originally developed for gait analysis of ablebodied subjects and therefore potentially misrepresent prosthetic foot behavior when applied to modern energy storage and return (ESAR) prostheses.
