Macrophage‐derived MLKL in alcohol‐associated liver disease: Regulation of phagocytosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
EtOH causes leaky gut allowing bacteria and PAMPs into the liver, resulting in hepatic inflammation and injury. We demonstrate that LPS induces STAT1‐mediated expression and phosphorylation of MLKL in macrophages and identify a novel function that myeloid MLKL translocates to phagosomes and lysosomes and regulates phagocytosis, which contributes to the

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

Long‐term prognosis is associated with residual disease after neoadjuvant systemic therapy but not with initial nodal status

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This long‐term follow‐up study determined survival rates in a Swedish national cohort of 417 patients with breast cancer who all had neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAST). Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was performed before NAST in clinically node‐negative and after NAST in clinically node‐positive patients.

Health‐related quality of life following total minimally invasive, hybrid minimally invasive or open oesophagectomy: a population‐based cohort study

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
All patients operated for oesophageal cancer in Sweden from 2013 to April 2018 were identified, and 246 patients were recruited to this population‐based nationwide Swedish study. Development and evaluation of a duplex TaqMan qPCR assay for detection and quantification of Trypanosoma cruzi infection in domestic and sylvatic reservoir hosts

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2019
Background A question of epidemiological relevance in Chagas disease studies is to understand Trypanosoma cruzi transmission cycles and trace the origins of (re)emerging cases in areas under vector or disease surveillance.
