Universal and Lineage‐Specific Patterns in the Distribution of ECOD Domain Homology Groups Across Superkingdoms

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Proteins are built from modular domains that serve as fundamental units of structure and evolution. While individual domains have been extensively cataloged, their collective distribution across the lineages of life has remained poorly resolved.

open access: yesWildlife Monographs, EarlyView.
We describe the host response continuum for highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV), including the continuum of host responses to HPAIV infection and exposure based on the primary axis of host competence, ability to infect other hosts, and host vulnerability.

Sleep disturbance in clinical and preclinical scrapie-infected sheep measured by polysomnography

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by neuronal loss and abnormal deposition of pathological proteins in the nervous system. Among the most common neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s ...

Charting the decline of the fourth wave: US overdose deaths by race, ethnicity and substance involvement

open access: yesAddiction, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims To characterize decreases in overdose death rates in the United States (US) between 2023 and 2024 by race/ethnicity, and substance involvement. Design Population‐based study of national death records accessed via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wide‐ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research (WONDER) platform ...

Low sequence diversity of the prion protein gene (PRNP) in wild deer and goat species from Spain

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2018
The first European cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in free-ranging reindeer and wild elk were confirmed in Norway in 2016 highlighting the urgent need to understand transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) in the context of European deer ...

Determinants of Poor Health‐Related Quality of Life in Patients With Food Allergy

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Machine‐learning analysis of 502 well‐characterised food‐allergic patients was used to identify key determinants of poor FA‐HRQL, defined as FAQLQ ≥ 5. The most relevant predictors were adult age, female sex, multiple food allergies, severe reactions, need for urgent care, onset before 18 years, and longer disease duration.

Absence of molecular evidence of Leptospira spp. in urine samples collected from rodents captured in Yucatán, México

open access: yesAustral Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2017
Leptospira spp. is a spirochete bacteria, causal agent of leptospirosis, zoonotic disease endemic in México that represents a serious public health and veterinary problem. Rodents are recognised as the most important reservoirs of this bacteria, which is

Natural History of Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis: Implications for Interventional Trial Design

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
In this nationwide cohort of 6894 patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis, recurrence risk increased progressively with each episode and occurred most frequently within the first year. Successive episodes were separated by shorter intervals, indicating an accelerating disease course and highlighting the importance of early preventive interventions ...

Proteomic profile of CSF obtained at the time of diagnosis determines amyotrophic lateral sclerosis progression and survival: CXCL7 levels in disease prognosis and survival

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Untargeted multiomic profiling of cerebrospinal fluid reveals that proteomic, but not lipidomic, signatures robustly distinguish ALS patients from controls and stratify individuals by survival, highlighting marked molecular differences between short survival and long survival disease.
