ESPOON: Enforcing Encrypted Security Policies in Outsourced Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The enforcement of security policies in outsourced environments is still an open challenge for policy-based systems. On the one hand, taking the appropriate security decision requires access to the policies.

Deciphering the Interplay Between Wetting and Chemo‐Mechanical Fracture in Lithium‐Ion Battery Cathode Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The fundamental intricate couplings between electrolyte wetting and fracture evolution are investigated in large single‐crystal V2O5 samples using both experimental techniques and simulations. Both approaches reveal consistent fracture patterns and lithium distribution concentration maps influenced by the wetting mechanism.

Asymmetry in South Africa’s Regulation of Customer Data Protection: Unequal Treatment between Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Over-the-Top (OTT) Service Providers

open access: yesThe African Journal of Information and Communication, 2019
This article examines the asymmetry that currently exists in South Africa in the regulatory treatment of customer data usage by mobile network operators (MNOs) and over-the-top (OTT) service providers. MNOs and OTTs must receive customer “consent”,

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Photo‐Switching Thermal and Lithium‐Ion Conductivity in Azobenzene Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐responsive azobenzene polymers control thermal and ionic transport simultaneously through structural transitions. UV illumination disrupts π–π stacking, converting crystalline trans states to amorphous cis configurations. Thermal conductivity drops from 0.45 to 0.15 W·m−1·K−1 while Li+ diffusivity increases 100 fold. This dual transport switching

A Computational Journey Toward an Optimal Design for Metamaterial Epicardial Passive Sleeves

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Passive epicardial sleeves are evaluated in 3D in‐silico heart models to reveal how sleeve geometry, stiffness, anisotropy, and metamaterial architecture influence cardiac mechanics after myocardial infarction. A continuum‐to‐auxetic design exploration shows that region‐specific mechanical engagement can reduce infarct bulging and modulate torsional ...
