Vibration and acoustic pre-assessment study for free piston engine structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents modelling and simulation study of vibration and acoustic for a new free piston engine. The free piston engine is a new engine concept where its piston motion is not restricted by the crankshaft component.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Ensuring Cyber-Security in Smart Railway Surveillance with SHIELD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Modern railways feature increasingly complex embedded computing systems for surveillance, that are moving towards fully wireless smart-sensors. Those systems are aimed at monitoring system status from a physical-security viewpoint, in order to detect ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Development of Deep Drawing Processes Under Indirect Hot Stamping Method for an Automotive Internal Combustion Engine Oil Pan Made from Ultra-High-Strength Steel (UHSS) Sheets Using Finite Element Simulation with Experimental Validation

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
This study presents the development of a deep drawing process under an indirect hot stamping method for manufacturing an automotive internal combustion engine oil pan from ultra-high-strength steel (UHSS) sheets, specifically 22MnB5.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Modelling linered engine blocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Factors that affect heat transfer in the linered aluminium engine block are examined to determine their importance. Conduction is found to be the dominant mode of heat transfer, and the interface is characterised as imperfect contact if there are no ...
