Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Polarity‐matched Zr–MOFs program Nafion's nanoscale morphology during solution casting. Hydrophilic UiO‐66 preserves hydrated pathways, while hydrophobic UiO‐67 increases the proton hopping sites by densifying ionic clusters. Combining both fillers yields a membrane that delivers 176 mS cm−1 conductivity, reaches 1.46 W cm−2 under 200 kPa, and triples ...

Bone‐Inspired Recyclable Composites for Damage‐Tolerant Circular Materials
Bone‐inspired architected composites are developed by combining osteon‐like reinforcements with a recyclable Elium thermoplastic matrix. The hierarchical architecture redirects cracks and promotes energy dissipation, while enabling recovery of intact, aligned, load‐bearing reinforcement units that retain their original stiffness, revealing a route ...

The mantis shrimp telson reveals how ridged biological shields control deformation under impact. Inspired by this architecture, telson‐inspired ridged curved shells transform ridge geometry and macroscopic curvature into bidirectional snap‐through, tunable stiffness, and enhanced hysteretic energy dissipation for multifunctional architected materials ...

Limits to the Hall Effect and Other Nonreciprocal Effects in Three‐Dimensional Metamaterials
Comprehensive and fundamental bounds on nonreciprocal effects in three‐dimensional metamaterials are derived. They reveal that the effective Hall mobility cannot exceed the largest constituent mobility, that, under certain conditions, the Verdet constant cannot be enhanced, and that, for constituents with Hall coefficients of the same sign, the largest

Sub‐Nanometer Curvature Unlocks Quantum Orbital Flexoelectricity in Graphene
In self‐assembled, reproducible, large‐area, quasi‐pristine graphene nanowrinkles, extreme curvature forces out‐of‐plane π‐electrons toward hybridization, driving a transition from classical to quantum orbital flexoelectricity. As curvature approaches the fundamental physical limit set by the C─C bond length, the resulting polarization increases by ...

Autonomous Folding of Soft Matter From Living Polymers
Origami structures are endowed with “living” polymer creases that grow, remodel, and stiffen in response to nutrient solutions. This post‐fabrication growth enables autonomous folding, iterative regrowth, and mechanical tuning involving origami assemblies, such as cranes, Miura‐ori tessellations, rigid and non‐rigid square‐twist patterns, establishing ...

Fire resistance evaluation of rice husk ash concrete
This paper studied the fire resistance of rice husk ash concrete. An experimental method was adopted as the research design in this work, which produced one hundred and eighty four (184) concrete specimens with the addition of rice husk ash in weighted ...
