ENGIN — A new instrument for engineers

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1997
Abstract A new strain scanner has been built at the ISIS facility which has been specially designed for engineering measurements. The instrument uses large radial collimators to define a small measuring gauge volume. Such collimators enable large detector arrays to be employed, thus reducing measuring times.

Engineering Financial Engineering [PDF]

open access: possible2014 IEEE Conference on Computational Intelligence for Financial Engineering & Economics (CIFEr), 2014
In order to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the Financial Engineering community it is important that financial models demonstrate sound engineering features of reliability and robustness and apply a repeatable process. A review of 47 journal and conference financial engineering papers from 1990 to 2013 reveals a large gap between theory ...

Engineering an Alpha Engine

The Journal of Investing, 2005
Who can resist fondly recalling the long investment boom of the 1980s and 1990s? We lived in a charmed world in which it was hard to lose money investing in stocks or bonds. So we are condemned to live now in an investment environment in which making money is hard.

Engineering and Software Engineering [PDF]

open access: possible, 2010
The phrase ‘software engineering’ has many meanings. One central meaning is the reliable development of dependable computer-based systems, especially those for critical applications. This is not a solved problem. Failures in software development have played a large part in many fatalities and in huge economic losses. While some of these failures may be

The engineering of systems engineers

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2000
The telephone companies serving the southeastern United States had taken great care to prepare for the inevitable day when a major hurricane would strike their service region. They had stockpiled poles, wire, and switches, provided back-up computer centers, vehicles, and more. No one had thought to include daycare centers, but if they had, it is likely

The Engineering of “Engineering a City”

Australian Journal of Multi-Disciplinary Engineering, 2010
The South Australia Division of Engineers Australia has recently produced a small guide to the engineering heritage of the City of Adelaide. The publication supports the 'Looking Back' theme of Engineers Australia's 90th Year. Although little physical evidence of Adelaide's engineering heritage remains, the research for the booklet uncovered many more
