Novel Biologically Active Glass Fiber Functionalized Using Magnesium Phosphate Cement Promotes Bone and Vascular Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
In this study, a new type of bioactive glass fiber ‐based composite magnesium phosphate bone cement is prepared and verified that its mechanical strength and biological properties. In addition, the cement may have played a biologically active role in the Notch and HIF signaling pathways.

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation Modulates Th17/Treg Balance via JAK/STAT Pathway in ARDS Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) alleviates lung and intestinal injury in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in rats. This study demonstrates that FMT restores the balance between Th17 and Treg cells, inhibits the JAK/STAT pathway, and modulates cytokine levels, reducing inflammation and lung damage. These

Modelling Atherosclerotic Plaque Cap Mechanics: Microcalcifications Reduce Mechanical Properties in Mesenchymal Stromal Cell‐Based Model

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study develops a tissue‐engineered model of the atherosclerotic cap using human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). After 2 weeks of culture to produce a collagenous matrix, a mineralizing medium induces microcalcifications over 4 weeks. These constructs, imaged with second harmonic generation microscopy, lead to reduced ultimate stress at rupture ...

Education as Engine

The American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 2014
Abstract The pull of education is a powerful engine for societal change. Education is a values-driven product with specific and objective aims that serve society. The values of professional occupational therapy education were laid down at the field’s inception, although they have changed with the passage of time and in response to the ...

Educating Engineering Professors in Education [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Engineering Education, 1999
AbstractEngineering graduates with Ph.D. degrees need to know how to teach for both academic and industrial careers. Ideally, education in pedagogy will occur during graduate school. Research has an appropriate role in universities, but we need to ensure that all engineering professors are “good enough” teachers. Students can learn how to teach through

Liberating engineering education: Engineering education and pragmatism

2013 IEEE Frontiers in Education Conference (FIE), 2013
The experts in pedagogical and curriculum development such as John Heywood and others have advocated that the liberating element of liberal studies are vocational elements of liberal education [1-2]. Since the 1960s, this statement constituted some of the leading work in curriculum development, managing mastery, and retraining programs of continued ...
