Engineering A Program Optimizer

Proceedings of the 1978 annual conference on - ACM 78, 1978
We describe our work in formally specifying an extension to an existing, large software system. In particular, we were interested in adding a global optimization phase to an operational cross-compiler. We describe the module decomposition of the optimizer and how the modules were formally specified. The resulting modules constitute a set of tools and a

New Optimization Techniques in Engineering

Journal of Mathematical Modelling and Algorithms in Operations Research, 2013
Computational mathematics, science and engineering are rapidly growing multidisciplinary areas with connections to business, economics, engineering, mathematics and computer science through academia as well as industry. There is furthermore a constant need in these fields for the quick and efficient advancement of information exchange with an expert ...

Process Engineering and Optimization

2018
Process planning plays a fundamental role within modern industrial facilities in that it is devoted to select the manufacturing processes and parameters and the sequences that are needed to convert a part from the initial to the final form. Evaluating the quality of a process plan from both a technological and an economic perspective becomes vital ...

Modular optimization in metabolic engineering

Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2021
There is an increasing demand for bioproducts produced by metabolically engineered microbes, such as pharmaceuticals, biofuels, biochemicals and other high value compounds. In order to meet this demand, modular optimization, the optimizing of subsections instead of the whole system, has been adopted to engineer cells to overproduce products.

Optimization in engineering design

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1972
This paper presents a method for solving a class of constrained optimization problems in finite-dimensional spaces. This type of problem usually arises in connection with parameter optimization in engineering design. Most often, these problems consist of incorporating upper and/or lower bounds on the variables in otherwise unconstrained optimization ...

Optimal Enterprise: Engineering and Control

2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE), 2020
The paper presents a system of formal models that allows posing and solving the question of engineering and managing an Enterprise as a mathematical optimization problem. A methodological analysis is made and a qualitative formalism is developed in the form of an integrated set of structural and process models describing the Enterprise and its complex ...

Engineering optimization with particle swarm

Proceedings of the 2003 IEEE Swarm Intelligence Symposium. SIS'03 (Cat. No.03EX706), 2004
The paper presents a modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for engineering optimization problems with constraints. PSO is started with a group of feasible solutions and a feasibility function is used to check if the newly explored solutions satisfy all the constraints. All the particles keep only those feasible solutions in their memory.

The Social Engineering Optimizer (SEO)

Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, 2018
Although several meta-heuristics have been developed in the last two decades, most of them are population-based, undergo many steps along with several parameters that make them hard to understand and code. In addition, there are same procedures in recent metaheuristics which make them similar.

Simple optimization toolbox for engineers

2015 12th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2015
Optimization problem is to find the best solution from all feasible solutions such as camera calibration[1], 3D reconstruction [2], visual odometry[3], human skeleton modeling. In order to find best solution, choosing an object function is very important.
