Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Engineering A Program Optimizer
Proceedings of the 1978 annual conference on - ACM 78, 1978We describe our work in formally specifying an extension to an existing, large software system. In particular, we were interested in adding a global optimization phase to an operational cross-compiler. We describe the module decomposition of the optimizer and how the modules were formally specified. The resulting modules constitute a set of tools and a

Modular optimization in metabolic engineering
Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2021There is an increasing demand for bioproducts produced by metabolically engineered microbes, such as pharmaceuticals, biofuels, biochemicals and other high value compounds. In order to meet this demand, modular optimization, the optimizing of subsections instead of the whole system, has been adopted to engineer cells to overproduce products.

Ant colony optimization for software engineers [PDF]
Many software engineering tasks can be formulated as search problems. Building tests requires selecting among infinite test inputs to maximise code coverage. In systems with large test-suites and limited resources, developers choose test execution order among all possible test-case permutations to maximise fault detection.

Process Engineering and Optimization
2018Process planning plays a fundamental role within modern industrial facilities in that it is devoted to select the manufacturing processes and parameters and the sequences that are needed to convert a part from the initial to the final form. Evaluating the quality of a process plan from both a technological and an economic perspective becomes vital ...

Optimization in engineering design
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1972This paper presents a method for solving a class of constrained optimization problems in finite-dimensional spaces. This type of problem usually arises in connection with parameter optimization in engineering design. Most often, these problems consist of incorporating upper and/or lower bounds on the variables in otherwise unconstrained optimization ...
