Abstract Since 1946, 8 fatal cases of rabies in man have been confirmed in England; in each case the infection had been acquired abroad and in 7 resulted from a bite by a rabid dog. Early administration of specific antiserum and a full course of vaccine can protect delay in starting, almost as much as absence of treatment may be detrimental.
