Multigate SOI MOSFETs: Accumulation-mode vs. enhancement-mode
2008 IEEE Silicon Nanoelectronics Workshop, 2008The performances of accumulation-mode and inversion-mode multigate FETs are compared. Both simulation and experimental data are presented. Accumulation-mode devices have a higher current drive and less process variability than inversion-mode FETs.

Enhanced whispering gallery mode sensors
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) Sensing XIX, 2018Optical whispering gallery mode (WGM) biochemical sensors operate by tracking changes in resonant frequency as materials enter the evanescent near-field of the resonator. To achieve the smallest limit of detection, it is desirable for WGM sensors to exhibit as large a frequency shift as possible for a material of a given size and refractive index, as ...

Enhancing whispering gallery mode biosensing
2013 15th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2013First, years of work on advancing the device physics and engineering of WGM biosensors has improved the ultimate physical detection limits of WGM transducers, yet the limits for DNA detection by hybridization has plateaued. Molecular recognition of DNA at a surface limits the biosensors' sensitivity, specificity, and reusability.

Monolithic enhancement-mode and depletion-mode GaN-based MOSHEMTs
SPIE Proceedings, 2016GaN-based metal-oxide-semiconductor high-electron-mobility transistors (MOSHEMTs) with outstanding properties of high operation speed and high breakdown voltage are promising for high frequency switching operation in ICs. To further develop the GaN-based digital ICs, the AlGaN/GaN MOSHEMT inverters integrated with the enhancement/depletion-mode (E/D ...

Plasmon-enhanced whispering gallery mode biosensing
2012 Photonics Global Conference (PGC), 2012Whispering gallery mode (WGM) biosensors derive their unprecedented sensitivity for label-free detection of biomolecules from the high-quality (Q) factor of an optical resonance phenomenon. Plasmonic excitations in metal nanostructures which are able to localize the WGM field at the target binding site can further enhance sensitivity by local electric ...

Cavity-Enhanced Biosensing Utilizing Plasmon Resonance Modes
2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006Traditionally, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors utilize absorption of light radiation incident upon noble metal films above the total internal reflection angles. Herein we extend the SPR phenomenon to incorporate cavity plasmon resonance (CPR) excitation of metallic films at incidence angles below the critical angle.

Mode-volume enhancement in an apertured laser
Applied Optics, 1995In a laser TEM(00)-mode selection by the use of a hard intracavity aperture gives rise to losses that are experimentally observable and to an increase in the fundamental-mode volume that is more difficult to observe. We use the parasitic resonances that are characteristic of multicavity lasers to demonstrate this volume enhancement in a He-Ne laser ...

Enhanced mode locking of color-center lasers
Optics Letters, 1989A significant enhancement in the mode locking of a KCl:Tl color-center laser has been observed when a length of optical fiber having positive group-velocity dispersion was incorporated within an external control cavity. Pulse durations of ~260 fsec were obtained by this method, representing a compression factor ~60x that with the colorcenter laser ...

Enhanced Empirical Mode Decomposition
2008Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) associated with the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) deconstructs a time-series signal into a set of monocomponent signals called intrinsic mode functions (IMF). EMD also acts as a filter limiting the frequency range of each IMF. EMD filtering is less than ideal and can lead to misleading results.

Guided Mode Enhanced Exciton Transport
CLEO 2025We demonstrate fast, unidirectional guided exciton transport in 2D WSe2 by engineering the photonic environment using tapered nanoridges, achieving 150% longer distances, 400% faster speeds, and higher efficiency than strain-based methods under ambient conditions.
