Methionine enkephalin and isosteric analogues. I. Synthesis on a phenolic resin support.

International journal of peptide & protein research, 2009
An efficient synthesis of methionine enkephalin using a phenolic resin support is described. Analogues modified at their C-termini, such as peptide acids, amides, methyl esters and compounds formed by their reduction, were prepared conveniently from ...

Self-administration of methionine enkephalin into the nucleus accumbens

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1984
Microinfusions of the endogenous opiate neurohumor, methionine enkephalin, into the nucleus accumbens initiated a reinforcing stimulus in a dose-related manner. The reinforcing nature of this intracranial self-administration was evaluated with intermittent schedules of reinforcement and a two-lever discrimination procedure.

Methionine-enkephalin and vasopressin in SHR: effects of dehydration

American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 1986
Enkephalins are found in the posterior pituitary, can alter vasopressin secretion, and have greater pressor effects in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) than in Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats. Measurement of the plasma methionine-enkephalin concentration (PMet-Enk) has provided equivocal results in humans and has not been reported in rats.

Methionine-enkephalin related glycoconjugates. Synthesis and biological activity.

International journal of peptide & protein research, 2009
A series of glycoconjugates, in which [Met5]enkephalin or [D-Ala2,Met5]enkephalin have been linked through an ester bond to the HO-6 of various D-glycopyranose moieties, were synthesized by classical solution methods.

Amino-terminal extension analogs of methionine-enkephalin

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1978
Abstract Five NH 2 -terminal extension analogs of methionine-enkephalin have been synthesized by solid phase methodology and their morphinomimetic activity determined in the guinea pig ileum-myenteric plexus preparation. Relative to methionine-enkephalin which corresponds to β-LPH-(61–65) and arbitrarily assigned a potency value of 100, β-LPH-(60–65),

Determination of Methionine-Enkephalin and Leucine-Enkephalin in Human Cerebrospinal Fluid

1983
Abstract Commercially available radio immunoassay kits were used to find out the concentrations of met-enkephalin and leu-enkephalin in the human concentrated CSF samples in the presence of seven proteinase inhibitors. Reference values were established for lumbar CSF. No correlation was found between total protein content and both enkephalins in CSF.

Methionine Enkephalin: A New Cytokine—Human Studies

Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1997
The effects of methionine enkephalin (met-enkephalin) on human immune function are reviewed. This pentapeptide functions to upregulate, or enhance, immune function in the majority of donor samples at low doses and suppresses at high doses. The influence of this molecule is shared by the central nervous, neuroendocrine, and immune systems.

Immunocytochemical localization of methionine enkephalin: Preliminary observations

Life Sciences, 1977
Abstract Antiserum directed against methionine enkephalin (metenkephalin) was used to determine its anatomical distribution in rat brain. Cross reactivity of that antiserum was not detectable against leucine enkephalin (leu-enkephalin), β-lipotropin (β-LPH), β-endorphin or assorted peptide fragments of met-enkephalin; alpha-endorphin was 370 times ...
