Amino-terminal extension analogs of methionine-enkephalin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1978Abstract Five NH 2 -terminal extension analogs of methionine-enkephalin have been synthesized by solid phase methodology and their morphinomimetic activity determined in the guinea pig ileum-myenteric plexus preparation. Relative to methionine-enkephalin which corresponds to β-LPH-(61–65) and arbitrarily assigned a potency value of 100, β-LPH-(60–65),

Determination of Methionine-Enkephalin and Leucine-Enkephalin in Human Cerebrospinal Fluid
1983Abstract Commercially available radio immunoassay kits were used to find out the concentrations of met-enkephalin and leu-enkephalin in the human concentrated CSF samples in the presence of seven proteinase inhibitors. Reference values were established for lumbar CSF. No correlation was found between total protein content and both enkephalins in CSF.

Methionine Enkephalin: A New Cytokine—Human Studies
Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1997The effects of methionine enkephalin (met-enkephalin) on human immune function are reviewed. This pentapeptide functions to upregulate, or enhance, immune function in the majority of donor samples at low doses and suppresses at high doses. The influence of this molecule is shared by the central nervous, neuroendocrine, and immune systems.

The effects of methionine-enkephalin on the production of interleukin-6 by activated peritoneal murine macrophages were studied. Macrophage were activated with interleukin-1beta or interferon-gamma in the presence or absence of graded concentrations of ...

Immunocytochemical localization of methionine enkephalin: Preliminary observations
Life Sciences, 1977Abstract Antiserum directed against methionine enkephalin (metenkephalin) was used to determine its anatomical distribution in rat brain. Cross reactivity of that antiserum was not detectable against leucine enkephalin (leu-enkephalin), β-lipotropin (β-LPH), β-endorphin or assorted peptide fragments of met-enkephalin; alpha-endorphin was 370 times ...

Methionine-enkephalin and morphine: Amount ejected microiontophoretically
Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1981The microiontophoretic transport numbers of Met-enkephalin and morphine were determined by ejecting the tritiated compounds from both 5-barrel and 7-barrel micro-pipettes into a small volume of 0.9% NaCl, using a series of ejection currents and various timed durations.
