Predicting the Solvent Properties of Supercritical Water by Integrating Solubility Parameter Theory and Molecular Force Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Chemical Engineering, Volume 1, Issue 1, July 2026.
The study maps molecular force fields to three‐component solubility parameters (δd, δp, and δhb). Solvent behavior reflects the competition between physical effects and hydrogen‐bond network evolution. Crucially, fluid density determines the absolute magnitude of cohesive interactions, whereas temperature functions as a key variable to selectively ...

Past Global Warming Influence on Intense Typhoons Reaching Southern China During El Niño and La Niña Using a Variable Resolution Global Model

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2026.
Warming shifted westward tracks northwards toward Guangdong, and concentrated curved tracks over the Yangtze River mouth. It is therefore possible that the perceived increased typhoon damage in recent years may be due to intense typhoon tracks shifting to more populated and economically important regions.

Application of Machine Learning in Low‐Carbon Economy: A Comprehensive Review of Predicting Cycle Life of Lithium/Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Neutralization, Volume 5, Issue 4, July 2026.
This review provides a comprehensive and up‐to‐date overview of applications of machine learning in predicting lithium/sodium‐ion batteries' cycle life. ABSTRACT The cycle life of rechargeable batteries, such as lithium‐ion and sodium‐ion systems, is a critical performance metric that determines their suitability for various applications in the context

Data‐Efficient and Explainable Ensemble Learning for HVAC Fan Power Modeling in Green Building Operations

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 7, July 2026.
An active learning–based framework is developed to predict AHU fan power with limited labeled HVAC data. Ensemble models (Random Forest and XGBoost) combined with SHAP interpretation improve prediction accuracy and reveal key temperature drivers for data‐efficient HVAC energy modeling.

Capturing Aleatoric Uncertainty in Climate Models

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Internal climate variability arises from the climate system's inherently chaotic dynamics. Quantifying it is essential for climate science, as it enables risk‐based decision‐making and differentiates between externally forced change and internal fluctuations.

How important are quantum mechanical effects in controlling biological functions: Enzymes, electron transfer and bird navigation

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract In light of the centennial of the Schrödinger equation, this article addresses the popular idea that quantum mechanical effects play an important role in biological systems. We start by defining what is qualified as a quantum effect. We then clarify the idea that quantum mechanical tunneling is a crucial factor in enzyme catalysis.

Spatial and vertical distribution of redox‐sensitive elements and their controlling factors in deep soils under contrasting land cover in the Gulf Coastal Plains

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Abstract Redox processes in soil governs key biogeochemical cycles and influence carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus dynamics. However, their role in deep vadose zone soils remains poorly understood, particularly in variably saturated environments with heterogeneous hydroclimatic, landscape position, and land use conditions.

Improving Daily Runoff Prediction Using a Novel Two‐Step Post‐Processing Method of Frequency Distribution Curve Correction

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Offsets and distributional discrepancies between runoff simulations and observations were two important error sources which remarkably degraded runoff prediction performance of hydrological models. However, traditional single post‐processing correction methods were difficult to reduce these two error sources simultaneously due to their ...
