Molecular characterization of Blastocystis and Entamoeba of muskoxen and sheep in Greenland.

International Journal of Parasitology, 2023
Molecular characterisation of endobionts that are shared among human and non-human hosts can help shed light on the epidemiology and inform studies that aim to unravel the role of these organisms in health and disease.

Entamoeba gingivalis Causes Oral Inflammation and Tissue Destruction

Journal of dentistry research, 2020
A metagenomics analysis showed a strongly increased frequency of the protozoan Entamoeba gingivalis in inflamed periodontal pockets, where it contributed the second-most abundant rRNA after human rRNA.

Introns of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar

Protist, 2001
The genome of Entamoeba histolytica is considered to possess very few intervening sequences (introns), as only 5 intron-containing genes from this protozoan parasite have been reported so far. However, while sequencing a number of genomic contigs as well as three independent genes coding for ribosomal protein L27a, we have identified 9 additional ...

Immune Response to the Enteric Parasite Entamoeba histolytica.

Physiology, 2020
Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan parasite responsible for amoebiasis, a disease with a high prevalence in developing countries. Establishing an amoebic infection involves interplay between pathogenic factors for invasion and tissue damage, and immune

Molecular karyotype of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba invadens

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1990
We report the size-fractionation of Entamoeba histolytica and E. invadens deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by pulsed field gradient electrophoresis. Using 3 different electrophoretic conditions, we were able to resolve 6 to 9 bands between 300 and 2000 kilobases (kb), distributed in 16-22 large and up to 31 small chromosomes for E. histolytica DNA.

Differentiation of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar infections

Parasitology Today, 1996
In this article, Terry jackson and Jonathan Ravdin briefly review the latest information on monoclonal antibody-based ELISAs that use antigen capture as a tool in the differential detection of human infection with Entamoeba histolytica and E. dispar.

Molecular epidemiology, evolution, and phylogeny of Entamoeba spp.

Infection, Genetics and Evolution, 2019
Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan parasite and the causative agent of amoebiasis in humans. The estimations of the worldwide burden of amoebiasis by the WHO indicated that approximately 500 million people were infected with the parasite and 10% of ...

rDNA Variability in Strains of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar

Archives of Medical Research, 2000
Among the different amebas that can live in the human gastrointestinal tract are Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar. Amebiasis is caused by Entamoeba histolytica and is responsible for ca. 100,000 deaths per year worldwide. However, many E. histolytica infections are asymptomatic, as they are for E. dispar.

The rhabdoviruses ofEntamoeba histolyticaandEntamoeba invadens

Annals of Tropical Medicine & Parasitology, 1976
Rhabdoviruses have been described in plants, arthropods and vertebrates including man. Members of the group are of agricultural, veterinary and medical importance. The presence of a rhabdovirus in Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba invadens is the first record of their existence within protozoa.
