RNA Sequencing Reveals Widespread Transcription of Natural Antisense RNAs in Entamoeba Species. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Entamoeba is a genus of Amoebozoa that includes the intestine-colonizing pathogenic species Entamoeba histolytica. To understand the basis of gene regulation in E.

Intestinal Parasitic Infections in Marginalized Populations: Prevalence and Risk Factors Among the Bantar Community of Sunsari, Nepal

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
Intestinal parasite infections remain highly prevalent (53.3%) among the Bantar community in Sunsari, Nepal, with Ascaris lumbricoides being the most common parasite and nail‐biting habit identified as a significant risk factor. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted water, sanitation, hygiene, and health education interventions.

Standardisation and evaluation of differential diagnostic systems for the detection of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar. [PDF]

open access: yes
Entamoeba histolytica is an invasive intestinal amoeba morphologically indistinguishable from Entamoeba dispar, a closely related organism that is not able to invade tissues. Differential diagnosis under conventional

Biovigilance in Faecal Microbiota Transplantation: 7‐Year Cohort Study and Framework for Microbiological Assessments of Infectious Adverse Events

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 5, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is increasingly used. However, no systematic approach exists to assess infectious risks after FMT, leading to underreporting. We evaluated infectious complications at the Netherlands Donor Feces Bank (NDFB) and proposed a structured biovigilance approach aligned with the EU Regulation

Phagocytosis of Gut Bacteria by Entamoeba histolytica

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2019
The protist parasite Entamoeba histolytica causes amoebiasis, a major public health problem in developing countries. Only a small fraction of patients infected with the parasite display invasive disease involving colon or extra intestinal tissues such as

Casease in Entamoeba histolytica [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1959
CASEASE, the proteolytic, casein-hydrolysing enzyme, has been reported in many bacteria. It has not hitherto been detected in the protozoan, Entamoeba histolytica. In earlier studies, Nakamura1 reported the absence of casease in certain strains of the amœbae.

Understanding the Distribution of Muscidae Flies and Their Role as Vectors of Bacterial Pathogens in South Africa: A Review Using BOLD Barcoding Data

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The role of Muscidae flies as vectors of bacterial pathogens with veterinary and public health significance necessitates accurate species identification and distribution mapping. This review analysed records from the Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) national Diptera checklist ...

Genetic Diversity and Gene Family Expansions in Members of the Genus Entamoeba

open access: yesGenome Biology and Evolution, 2019
Amoebiasis is the third-most common cause of mortality worldwide from a parasitic disease. Although the primary etiological agent of amoebiasis is the obligate human parasite Entamoeba histolytica, other members of the genus Entamoeba can infect humans ...
