Analysis of Sources and Trends in Agricultural GHG Emissions from Annex I Countries

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2020
The vast majority of the scientific community believe that anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are the predominant cause of climate change. One of the GHG emission sources is agriculture. Following the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

Delivering on net zero: Scottish Agriculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The aim of this study was to identify whether, how and at what cost agricultural GHG emissions in Scotland could be reduced by 35% by 2045. In 2017, Scottish agricultural GHG emissions were estimated to be 7.6 Mt CO2e making the 35% target 2.7 Mt CO2e ...

Campylobacter jejuni colonization promotes the translocation of Escherichia coli to extra-intestinal organs and disturbs the short-chain fatty acids profiles in the chicken gut [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
For a long time Campylobacter was only considered as a commensal microorganism in avian hosts restricted to the ceca, without any pathogenic features. The precise reasons for the symptomless chicken carriers are still unknown, but investigations of the ...

Evaluation of a new identification system, Crystal Enteric/Non-Fermenter, for gram-negative bacilli

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Microbiology, 1995
A total of 505 fermentative and 201 nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli, identified by conventional methods, were tested by the Crystal Enteric/Non-Fermenter ID kit and by the API 20E or API 20NE identification system. The overall correct results for fermenters were 92.9% by the Crystal kit and 89.1% by the API 20E system.

Non‐Invasive Brain Targeted Delivery of Cannabidiol for Alleviating Neuroinflammatory Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The glucose‐functionalized nanoparticles (GNPs) are developed for the brain‐targeted delivery of cannabidiol (CBD). GNPs bypass the blood‐brain barrier (BBB) via glucose transporter‐1 (GLUT‐1) and release CBD in response to reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Methane emissions from enteric fermentation in dairy cows, 1990-2008 [PDF]

open access: yes
The Dutch protocol for the national inventory estimates the methane emission of the average Dutch dairy cow based on a Tier 3 approach. A dynamic, mechanistic model is used to represent the enteric fermentation processes, using annual national statistics

Medium alkalization due to carbon metabolism is largely responsible for inhibition of bacterial growth by Vibrio cholerae supernatants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of the diarrheal disease cholera. Many Vibrio species secrete antimicrobial factors, though the identity of such a factor has not been determined for any V. cholerae strain.

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...

Gastrointestinal modification based on probiotic feed additive enviro-alleviators to reduce enteric methane production in ruminant and non-ruminant livestock

open access: yesResources, Environment and Sustainability
Abatement of livestock enteric-produced methane (CH4) has become an avenue of interest to improve global economical and environmental burdens. Among these approaches, probiotic feed additives (PFAs) are increasingly pointed out in literature to ...

Climate Change Impacts on Livestock Production Systems: A Review

open access: yesAnnals of Tropical Research, 2014
The socio-economic contribution of livestock production to global livelihood and food security offsets its negative effects on the environment through greenhouse gas (GHG) emission.
