Enterococcus ureilyticus sp. nov. and Enterococcus rotai sp. nov., two urease-producing enterococci from the environment

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2013
A set of 25 urease-producing, yellow-pigmented enterococci was isolated from environmental sources. Phenotypic classification divided the isolates into two phena. Both phena were characterized using 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, DNA base composition, rep-PCR fingerprinting and automated ribotyping.

Two novel species Enterococcus lemanii sp. nov. and Enterococcus eurekensis sp. nov., isolated from a swine-manure storage pit

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2012
A polyphasic taxonomic study using morphological, biochemical, chemotaxonomic and molecular genetic methods was performed on six strains of unknown Gram-positive, nonspore-forming, facultative anaerobic coccus-shaped bacteria isolated from a swine-manure storage pit.

Method for rapid and sensitive detection of Enterococcus sp. and Enterococcus faecalis/faecium cells in potable water samples

Water Research, 2011
We have developed a rapid and robust technological solution including a membrane filtration and dissolution method followed by a molecular enrichment and a real-time PCR assay, for detecting the presence of Enterococcus sp. or Enterococcus faecalis/faecium per 100 mL of water in less than 5 h and we compared it to Method 1600 on mEI agar in terms of ...

Factors Affecting the Adsorption of Bacteriocins to Lactobacillus sakei and Enterococcus sp.

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2007
Bacteriocins bacJW3BZ and bacJW6BZ produced by Lactobacillus plantarum, and bacJW11BZ and bacJW15BZ produced by Lactobacillus fermentum, inhibit Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Treatment of Enterococcus sp. HKLHS and Lactobacillus sakei DSM 20017 with these bacteriocins deformed the cells and resulted in DNA and beta-galactosidase leakage ...

Molecular epidemiology of Enterococcus sp. isolated in a university hospital in Algeria

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2012
The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology of enterococci isolated from infections at an Algerian university hospital, and to evaluate the prevalence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and the clonal cluster present in this country.Patients who presented at Annaba University Hospital with Enterococcus infections were prospectively ...

Enterococcus caccae sp. nov., isolated from human stools

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2006
The National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) isolated two enterococcus-like strains that were referred to the CDC Streptococcus Laboratory for further identification.

Enterococcus xiangfangensis sp. nov., isolated from Chinese pickle

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2014
A Gram-stain-positive bacterial strain, 11097T, was isolated from traditional pickle in Heilongjiang Province, China. The bacterium was characterized using a polyphasic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, phenylalanyl-tRNA synthase (pheS) gene sequence analysis, RNA polymerase α subunit (rpoA) gene sequence analysis, fatty acid methyl ...

Characterization of three new enterococcal species, Enterococcus sp. nov. CDC PNS-E1, Enterococcus sp. nov. CDC PNS-E2, and Enterococcus sp. nov. CDC PNS-E3, isolated from human clinical specimens.

Journal of clinical microbiology, 2004
As a reference laboratory, the Streptococcus Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is frequently asked to confirm the identity of unusual or difficult-to-identify catalase-negative, gram-positive cocci. In order to accomplish the precise identification of these microorganisms, we have systematically applied analysis of ...

Enterococcus Xinjiangensis sp. nov., Isolated from Yogurt of Xinjiang, China

Current Microbiology, 2016
A Gram-strain-positive bacterial strain 48(T) was isolated from traditional yogurt in Xinjiang Province, China. The bacterium was characterized by a polyphasic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, polymerase α subunit (rpoA) gene sequence analysis, determination of DNA G+C content, DNA-DNA hybridization with the type strain of ...

Enterococcus hailinensis sp. nov., Isolated from Traditional Chinese Pickle

Current Microbiology
Two enterococcal isolates, designated as strains N48-2T and N48-9.1, were isolated from traditional Chinese pickle ('Suan cai') and characterized using a polyphasic approach. Phylogenies based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and whole genome sequences indicated that strains N48-2T and N48-9.1 were most closely related to Enterococcus hermanniensis LMG ...
