A murine neonatal model of necrotizing enterocolitis caused by anemia and red blood cell transfusions

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an idiopathic, inflammatory bowel necrosis of premature infants. Clinical studies have linked NEC with antecedent red blood cell (RBC) transfusions, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear.

Basophil Activation Test as Biomarker of Severity and Threshold of Allergic Reactions to Cow's Milk During Oral Food Challenges

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
The threshold of reactivity during fresh milk challenges was 70% lower than that of baked milk challenges, reflecting the higher allergenicity of fresh milk. BAT was the only biomarker statistically significantly different between severity and threshold groups, for baked milk and fresh milk allergies, respectively.

Sequence of Immunological Events During IgE‐Mediated Allergic Reactions to Food

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food allergies (FA) represent a significant global health burden. Upon allergen re‐exposure, allergic patients exhibit a sequence of symptoms that vary in terms of affected organ systems, severity, time of onset and allergen reactivity thresholds.

Proton pump inhibitors are not associated with an increased risk of Clostridioides difficile infection: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesGut Microbes
Observational studies reported conflicting results regarding the association between proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and intestinal dysbiosis. We assessed the risk of enteric infections, including Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), and small ...

Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis in experimental necrotizing enterocolitis: alterations in inflammation, innate immune response, and the microbiota. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundProbiotics decrease the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). We sought to determine the impact of Bifidobacterium longum subsp. infantis (B. infantis) in the established rat model of NEC.MethodsRat pups delivered 1 d prior to term gestation

Laparoscopic cervical cerclage and pregnancy outcomes in consecutive pregnancies: An observational study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Laparoscopic cervical cerclage was associated with favorable neonatal outcomes in both first and subsequent pregnancies. Neonatal outcomes did not appear to differ based on whether the cerclage was placed pre‐ or postconception. High neonatal survival rates and favorable obstetric outcomes in both second and third pregnancies were demonstrated ...
