Enterocytozoon bieneusi genotypes in Tibetan sheep and yaks
Parasitology Research, 2018Few studies have been conducted on the distribution of Enterocytozoon bieneusi genotypes in Tibetan sheep and yaks, which live outdoors in extreme climate with high altitude. In this study, fecal specimens from 312 Tibetan sheep and 554 yaks in Qinghai, China, were collected and examined for E.

Zoonotic Enterocytozoon bieneusi genotypes found in brazilian sheep
Research in Veterinary Science, 2016The presence of Enterocytozoon bieneusi in sheep has been reported in only three countries worldwide. The present study has found E. bieneusi in Brazilian sheep for the first time; in 24/125 (19.2%) fecal samples by PCR and on 8/10 (80%) farms from three diverse locations.

Molecular characterization of new genotypes Enterocytozoon bieneusi in Slovakia
Acta Tropica, 2019Enterocytozoon bieneusi is characterized as a ubiquitous intestinal parasite with a wide genetic diversity, and it is capable of infecting a diverse range of hosts all around the world. Since information about the genotype diversity of E. bieneusi in pigs, calves, sheep and goats in Slovakia is very limited, we examined three farms where we mapped the ...

Spore shedding pattern of Enterocytozoon bieneusi in asymptomatic children
Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2005Stool samples from seven human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative and two HIV-positive children with asymptomatic Enterocytozoon bieneusi infections were daily examined to quantify spore shedding using Gram-chromotrope staining under light microscopy. The spore shedding pattern and intensity in these children was variable.

A longitudinal study of Enterocytozoon bieneusi in dairy cattle
Parasitology Research, 2009Feces from each of 30 Holstein cattle on a Maryland dairy farm were examined at weekly, bimonthly, and then monthly intervals from 1 week to 24 months of age for the presence of Enterocytozoon bieneusi. DNA was extracted from spores cleaned of fecal debris, and a two-step nested PCR protocol was used to amplify a fragment of the internal transcriber ...

First report of Enterocytozoon bieneusi in pigs in Brazil
Parasitology International, 2015Although Brazil is the world's fourth largest producer and exporter of pork, there is no information on Enterocytozoon bieneusi in pigs. This study was undertaken to determine the presence of E. bieneusi in pigs in the State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Outbreak of microsporidiosis caused by Enterocytozoon bieneusi in falcons
Veterinary Parasitology, 2008Four falcons from a private collection of 137 falcons in Abu Dhabi (UAE) died suddenly in summer 2005. In order to screen for a possible disease among the remaining falcons in the aviary, all other birds were caught, examined and treated if necessary.

Enterocytozoon bieneusi (Microspora): prevalence and pathogenicity in AIDS patients
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1990Microsporidia are unicellular organisms, which lack mitochondria. They have prokaryotic-like ribosomes and characteristic spores containing an extrusible polar tube which serves as a passage for inoculation of the infectious agent (sporoplasm) into host cells.

Enterocytozoon bieneusi multiorgan microsporidiosis in a HIV-infected patient
Journal of Infection, 1998Multiorgan microsporidiosis due to Enterocytozoon bieneusi was diagnosed in an HIV-infected patient. The parasite was found and identified as E. bieneusi by transmission electron microscopy in stools, duodenal biopsy, nasal discharge and sputum. No clinical improvement or parasite eradication was obtained after albendazole therapy, but the patient ...
