Enteroendocrine cell signalling via the vagus nerve
Current Opinion in Pharmacology, 2013Nutrient delivery to the gut activates neuroendocrine mechanisms that control digestion and energy intake and utilisation. These include the release from enteroendocrine cells of mediators including 5HT, CCK, GLP-1, PYY and ghrelin that act on vagal afferent neurons regulating food intake and autonomic reflexes controlling motility, secretion ...

Autotransplantation Modulates Ileal Enteroendocrine Cell Expression in the Pig
Journal of Surgical Research, 2001Enteroendocrine cell-derived peptides modulate postresectional small bowel adaptation, which may be attenuated by transplantation. We investigated whether autotransplantation modulates the number and distribution of ileal enteroendocrine cells in pigs with proximal small bowel resection.Fifteen pigs were assigned into either small intestinal ...

Enteroendocrine cells in the developing opossum stomach.
Journal of anatomy, 1988The distribution of enteroendocrine cells showing immunoreactivities to four peptides and one amine was examined in the gastric mucosa of the opossum during postnatal development using specific immunocytochemical methods. Gastrin-, BPP-, glucagon-, somatostatin- and 5-HT-immunoreactive cells were identified in the gastric mucosa of the newborn opossum.
